Why You Need To Visit SeaQuest Interactive Aquarium Littleton Colorado
A few months ago I heard that a new aquarium was coming to Denver, I was surprised when I read that it would be built in an existing mall down in south Denver. I knew that once we had the opportunity we would need to go and explore this aquarium. SeaQuest Interactive Aquariums are located in multiple cities across the country and now we are lucky enough to have one in Colorado.
As we pulled up to Southwest Plaza Mall in Littleton we were excited to see how this aquarium would be presented as it was inside the mall. Honestly, I was not expecting my kids to be blown away just because of it probably being smaller than the downtown aquarium. I have to say, we were all pleasantly surprised.
My parents joined us for this exploration so we had a lot of fun. Due to us getting a sneak peek of SeaQuest we did miss a few creatures that were still in transit to their new home but for the most part I would choose this smaller aquarium over the large downtown one. One of the biggest differences between SeaQuest and the downtown aquarium is that pretty much ever section has an interactive feature.
Jude is almost 8 and Teagan is 5, this was a perfect morning activity for them. During our 2 hour visit neither one of them was bored, which is HUGE for us as we feel like when one of the kids is entertained the other gets bored. Every exhibit is broken up into different sections of the World. The aquarium has done a lot of decorating through out to make you feel like you are actually visiting those parts of the world too. So fun and the kids really noticed.
SeaQuest Themed Exhibits Include:
Amazon Rainforest – From atop the jungle canopy to the rivers below, explore an immense collection of life from the world’s largest tropical rainforest. Experience animals that live in the rainforest trees like iguanas and species of large fish found in the Amazon River.
California Coast – Observe tide pool creatures just like you would find on California’s Pacific coastline including crabs, snails, sea stars and more. You’ll also discover other cold water crustaceans from the world below the ocean’s surface.
Fantasy Caves – Marvel at one of the most amazing natural phenomena in the world, bioluminescence. Many of the creatures in this room glow under different spectrum of light. Explore an exciting collection of scorpions, coral and other kinds of glowing life.
Shark Lagoon – Take a plunge into the deep and visit our shark exhibits. You’ll find several different species of sharks of various shapes and sizes. If you’re brave enough, you can even hand feed the sharks! These sharks are not dangerous and are well-adjusted to hand feedings.
Mayan Jungle – The Mayan Jungle is home to one of our most popular attractions, the aviaries. Here you can make friends with flocks of brightly colored lorikeets and parakeets and even get a chance to feed them. You’ll also get to know their neighbors in fresh and saltwater aquarium.
Adventurers Boardwalk – Take a stroll down our coastal promenade and experience loads of interactive games, water tables and great photo possibilities.
Egyptian Desert – Experience the dry desert climate and study the hieroglyphics on the wall of ancient ruins in our Egyptian Desert. You’re invited to feed the roaming sulcata tortoises, learn about large lizards or venture to where snakes are longer than you are tall.
Caribbean Cove – Enjoy a tropical adventure as you view a wide variety of exotic fish. The Caribbean Cove is also where you can experience snorkeling with friendly stingrays. If you’re lucky you may even spot one of our resident mermaids!
Pirate Island – All aboard mateys! Explore the depths of a sunken pirate ship and you may encounter the notorious pirate Captain Quest on your deep water excursion. You won’t find any doubloons on this ship, instead you’ll discover a treasure of colorful tropical fish.
Great Wall of China – Scale the Great Wall of China and enjoy the Asian themed architecture as you meet animals that come from northeastern Asia. Feed the koi fish, mandarin ducks and various species of turtles in the pond and meet the unique breed of chicken, called silkies.
The Outback – Cross the equator and visit the land down under! The Australian Outback is home to a wide array of fascinating animals each with its own adaptation to life in this harsh climate. Some of the reptiles you’ll meet include curious bearded dragons and thorny uromastyx lizards.
Fishing Village – Venture to the frozen northern landscape of Iceland, home to many mystifying natural wonders like lava tubes and the northern lights. Learn about the different species of trout and sturgeon in our mixed-species exhibit, as well as blue crabs and cichlids.
I think what really made me enjoy this aquarium was how great the staff was to the kids. They answered questions and even asked the kids questions to get them exploring more. I loved that the kids got to touch creatures that they have never seen before, including a chocolate chip starfish and sharks.
We LOVED getting to meet the Sloth too! He was so cute!! Also his bunking buddy the Tucan was loving all of the attention. While those adorable otters hadn’t made it to the aquarium yet I know that once they are there, they are going to love their swimming area. I cannot wait to see them the next time we go for a visit.
Some of our most memorable moments while on our visit to SeaQuest was in the aviaries. Now let me tell you a little secret about me. I am not a fan of birds, especially birds that are flying and hanging out above me which means it takes a lot for me to go into an aviary. But this day was special. The kids went into both the lorikeets and parakeets aviaries and when the birds stared to land on them I knew I had to get pictures of them. They were so brave and so excited to have these brightly colored birds just visiting with them. I do think the Lorikeet that was on Jude’s head was just eating his hair gel though! HA! So funny!
Plan Your Visit To SeaQuest Littleton Colorado
As you plan your visit to SeaQuest Littleton please be prepared for lines as the aquarium did just open and like I said, the space is a bit smaller than the big downtown attraction. When we visit again, we will plan to get there first thing in the morning however, on those evenings that you just want to get out of the house and stay out of the heat, because this is located in a mall their hours are extended! All of us parents are thanking SeaQuest for that!! What a treat to have that option for evening activities now too!
You can buy single day tickets or there are annual passports available if this is an activity that you plan on visiting often. I would estimate that you could spend 1-2 hours at this aquarium. This is not an all day activity.
