When Jude decided that his 8th Birthday Party would be a Nintendo birthday party I was pretty stumped. Sure, I know about the Nintendo video games but he didn’t want just ONE game he wanted them all to be represented at his party! Seriously! So, we decided on a few of his favorites and got planning.
Nintendo Birthday Party Ideas
Today I am excited to share some of our favorite ideas from this party. Once again, with the help of our family and friends we had a fantastic day celebrating Jude! Hard to believe we have hosted 8 of these fun backyard parties. Now, that being said, the last two years in true Colorado fashion, the weather has decided to go crazy on us. The high temperature for Jude’s party day, which was a pool party in the backyard, was only 72 degrees!! I was so nervous about what the kids were going to do for the party because the pool would be too cold but here in Colorado we grow them with tough skin I guess because every single kiddo not only participated in the many water balloon fights but they all got in the pool at one point too!
For the activities for this party we just bought some of our favorite water balloons and had the pool and bouncy house out for the kids. Like I said, even in the chilly weather the kids were entertained for hours! So fun! I love seeing the kids just laugh and be silly.
For his Nintendo birthday cake we hired my good friend who has done nearly all of our birthday party cakes over the years. We told her what Jude was thinking and she delivered something amazing once again. Her cakes are always the talk of the party and really help us tie our theme together. Jude LOVED this cake because all of his favorite characters were included.
Nintendo Birthday Party Food Ideas
For our main course we picked up pizzas because most kids love pizza and it is an easy option. Oh and pizza is in Mario Bros video games so it actually worked with the theme too!
I knew I wanted to have a number of side dishes that used the Nintendo theme so we got to thinking. I love creating fun designs for our veggie and fruit trays so I decided to jump on the Fire Power Flower Veggie Tray train and man I am glad I did. This fun veggie tray might be my favorite one yet! Super easy to do too!
I recreated the Pokeball fruit tray from Jude’s Pokemon birthday party for the fruit this year. Once again it was a hit. The kids just LOVE all things Pokemon still.
Every year we make some delicious popcorn that EVERYONE at the party LOVES and admit that they eat too much of every time we serve it. Here is the original recipe we used many years ago but we just change it up with different colored melted chocolate and sprinkles. This year we went with pink chocolate and marshmallows and sprinkles for a yummy Kirby Popcorn treat! So good and so easy to make.
Alright folks, this was Jude’s idea and we tried to master it. While the idea was great, the presentation had people a little nervous about trying it. This bowl was full of Splatoon Jell-o. Basically what we did was make five different colored jell-o and then cut those jell-o dishes into small squares…basically creating mini jell-o jigglers. Once we did that, we mixed all of the colors together in a large bowl. This created a brightly colored jell-o dish.
I just had to share this picture! Look at that water balloon!! Boys!
We had a great day celebrating Jude, even if the weather was crazy. The theme that had me frustrated actually came together really well. With every year it seems like Jude is getting even more creative with his request for his party theme. Wonder what next year will bring?
Happy Birthday JUDE! I know 8 is going to be GREAT!!
Jude’s 8 Year Old Stats & Things I Do Not Want To Forget
I took Jude to his check up just a few weeks ago. We found out that he is a healthy growing boy.
Jude’s 8 Year Old Stats:
Weight = 91 pounds (99%)
Height = 4’7″ (99%)
So this 8 year old is just ONE foot shorter than me!! SO CRAZY!!
Jude is an avid reader – reading at least a 4th grade level and can finish a good sized book in one day. He loves to learn and ask questions. He is able to ride his bike all over the neighborhood now without training wheels! Jude wears a size 4 shoe, large shirts and size 12 pants. He is still a very anxious boy but he is learning how to control this and his outbursts. He will be entering 2nd grade as the oldest in his class and even though we notice the age differences we are so happy we decided to “hold him back” to be the older kid in class. He is full of love and empathy – great characteristics for a young man. He loves to eat seafood, watch Battlebots, play Pokemon GO! and tell jokes. This boy is going places and we cannot wait to see the road he paves.
