Harlem Globetrotters – What To Expect
We have had the opportunity to attend the Harlem Globetrotters events a few times. The kids love it and honestly so do I. While some basketball games can drag on for kids, the Harlem Globetrotters create an event that has the whole crowd laughing and having fun all while enjoying a great basketball game. Today I am sharing some tips, tricks and things that you can expect when you take your kids to the Harlem Globetrotters event in your area.
Expect To Laugh
You and your kids will laugh a lot! Sure the Globetrotters are fantastic basketball players but they are also really silly actors. Through out the game you will follow along with the teams trick and mess with each other. This includes getting the audience members involved. If you are near the court…you might get wet or even have one of the Globetrotters use your lap as a chair. But, no matter where you are sitting you are in for a great show with a lot of jokes and laughing.
Expect Lots Of Opportunities To Wiggle
Due to the informal setting, I feel like the kids can get up and wiggle around through out the show. In addition to them being able to get up during the show, during halftime, you are able to go down to the court to wiggle more and check out the merchandise. We lucked out this time and Jude had a friend at the game so they were able to run around during halftime. That is always fun to see kids play and enjoy their friends at an event like this.
Expect To See Some Amazing Tricks
The Harlem Globetrotters don’t just shoot 2 and 3 pointers…nope they even have 4 pointers! The tricks are crazy and while you see a few familiar tricks during the show, you can tell that the Globetrotters are always working to show their skills by creating new tricks. These creative athletes push the limits by flipping, jumping and climbing. It does make you wonder how they do it.
Expect Globie To Steal Your Heart
The Harlem Globetrotter’s mascot is Globie, he is pretty fun! He is, by far, Teagan’s very favorite part of the show. He dances and gets the crowd super excited for the game. It is so fun to see Globie work the crowd!
Expect To Not See A Normal Basketball Game
Look…we all love a good Basketball game but this is not a normal basketball game. The quarters are not regulation time and the time continues even when they are doing silly acts and audience tricks. This is a fast paced game that is perfect for kids. There is no downtime for the kids to get bored. The event is about 90 minutes long.
Expect To Have Fun – No Matter Your Age
Major sport fanatics will love this experience and toddlers too! Like I said, this is a fast paced event that keeps everyone’s attention. My dad came with the kids and me this time so our age range was from 7 to 72! All of the jokes and entertainment is family friendly and so fun to watch. With the fast paced event, younger kids will not be bored…in fact they will be bummed when the game comes to an end.
Expect A 5th Quarter
Yes…a 5th Quarter! The game isn’t over after the final shot! Meet your favorite Globetrotter courtside after the game to get an autograph and photo. Once the game is done…the court is roped off and the Globetrotters spread out and a line forms. FOR FREE you and your family can stay for the 5th quarter and get autographs and photos with the Globetrotters. While the line is a bit long at times, the “wranglers” keep things moving so everyone can get a number of autographs and photos.
Expect To See Lots Of Merchandise
If your kids are like Jude and Teagan…they are always wanting SOMETHING at every event. Be prepared, the Harlem Globetrotters have a lot of merchandise for purchase. Thankfully they do offer items at all price ranges. If you plan on attending the 5th quarter autographs and photos, I suggest buying a Harlem Globetrotter basketball. It is fun to take that ball to any other Globetrotter events you might attend.
Once again we had a great time at the Harlem Globetrotters and even days after the event both Jude and Teagan are still talking about the silly things the Globetrotters did on the court. It is so fun to hear them talk about the experience. I highly recommend you adding The Harlem Globetrotters to your family bucket list. You will not be disappointed!
