During this crazy time of life, I am trying really hard to pick up my book through out the day more than usual.  In doing so, I have completed my third book of 2020!  I know I am a bit behind on achieving 20 books read in 2020 but I am hopeful that this extra time will help me reach that goal this year.

For my third book, I picked up a new book from an author that I love, Katherine Center.  I have read a few of her books already, including How To Walk Away and Get Lucky.  Both were great books and I am excited to share that Things You Save in the Fire by Katherine Center is also a great read you must add to your reading list!

Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center

Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she’s seen her fair share of them, and she’s excellent at dealing with other people’s tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to uproot her life and move to Boston, it’s an emergency of a kind Cassie never anticipated.

The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie’s old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren’t exactly thrilled to have a “lady” on the crew, even one as competent and smart as Cassie. Except for the handsome rookie, who doesn’t seem to mind having Cassie around. But she can’t think about that. Because she doesn’t fall in love. And because of the advice her old captain gave her: don’t date firefighters. Cassie can feel her resolve slipping…but will she jeopardize her place in a career where she’s worked so hard to be taken seriously?

My Review of Things You Save in a Fire

I was stuck on a book that I started but I just couldn’t get into it.  I wanted to enjoy this extra time so I put that book down and picked up Things You Save in a Fire.  Within 10 minutes I was hooked.  I read this book in two days and I LOVED IT!!  It was a perfect book to escape the craziness of life right now.

I adore Katherine Center’s writing so this isn’t a surprise that I enjoyed her new novel as well.  Katherine is really great at helping the reader become friends with the characters in the story.  Things You Save in a Fire is a story about finding yourself, falling down, failing and rising up to the challenges that life presents.  I enjoyed the silly romantic pieces of this novel but also thought that Katherine Center did a great job incorporating some serious issues that many people face daily.

Things You Save in a Fire is way more than a good Chic Lit book – it is about romance, forgiveness, self-respect, family relationships along with doing the right thing in life even when it is hard.  I recommend this book to anyone that loves a great story line filled with strong female characters.

Well book number three has helped me find my reading groove again.  I love finding a book like that!  I am already enjoying book four and I cannot wait to share the book review with you soon!  I am always looking for new books to add to my reading list so please share some books you have really enjoyed recently.  Make sure you check out my 2020 Reading List and Goal too.  Maybe you can add some of my books to your list this year!
