Have you considered having a boudoir session but you are on the fence with excuses and reasons not to schedule that session? Today I am sharing reasons every woman needs a Boudoir session with an experienced photographer. This is a bit of a different article for me to write and I have been sitting on how to present this for a few weeks but decided I had to share this because dang it…we all deserve to feel what I feel after having my first Boudoir session. While these photos make me incredibly proud and amazing, this is a very personal share for me. I appreciate your professional and kind responses as you read through this article.

8 Reasons Every Woman Needs A Boudoir Session
1. You Deserve To See and Love Yourself
I have to be honest, the last 2 years or so has been rough. Sure, there are have been some great memories and experiences with my kids and I have really stuck to my goal of focusing on my health but overall, I have been struggling. I try to keep most of that personal stuff off of my website but the fact is, my life has changed dramatically and while I would love to say it is all for the good…I cannot say that right now. However, when I had the opportunity to step into a Boudoir session it gave me enough pause to look at those months, weeks and days of struggle and decide to take the ultimate decision to truly see myself and love myself.
I had my reasons for not jumping into the opportunity before and the reasons were always about my body size, my self-esteem and what others might think. The honest fact here – you will always have an excuse that your weight isn’t where you want it to be but that just isn’t a good enough reason to not experience a boudoir session.
I left my session feeling freaking amazing, not only did I feel pretty but I could finally see the work that I had done in terms of losing weight and making healthier choices. Impostor syndrome is real and it is a struggle! I walked out of my session with my head held high and an updated body image in my head – FINALLY!
2. You Will Be Empowered
It is no surprise that many women feel belittled, unworthy, ugly and weak due to relationships, past experiences, and society. My good friend that helped me make the decision to jump into a Boudoir session told me that she feels incredibly empowered during her sessions and that is why she does these sessions – for herself. She was absolutely right. Who would have thought that by simply slipping on a bodysuit would make me feel like I could take on the world?
Through out the session, I felt strong, beautiful and most importantly, comfortable. Again, who would have thought? No matter your relationship status or past experiences the feeling of empowerment is something that every woman needs to feel. A Boudoir session has a therapeutic effect. I find my empowerment by thinking back to my session and looking at my photos. To be clear, these photos are for me, in my moments of feeling down, defeated or shamed I make sure to take time to see the whole me captured in this photos.
3. Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone
I hate the idea of stepping outside in a bathing suit and would never consider myself sexy or sensual. Welp…I stepped out of that comfort zone and it felt amazing. This doesn’t mean I am going to be prancing around in swimsuits or lingerie but it does mean that I took a risk and it was worth it. If you have a photographer that is good at his or her job this step will not be scary for long. Through out your session you will find that you can be comfortable with your body and yourself.
I can look back at my photos and instantly feel that comfort zone disappear. Some people do these shoots for their significant others but for me, this session gives me many opportunities to see that comfort zones are meant to be challenged, especially when those experiences turn into something therapeutic and empowering.
4. Self-Care Is Important
We talk about it a lot! Self-care!! For me, my self-care has been focused on working out and taking better care of myself. This project and goal has been successful and although I am not to my goal just yet I am trying to focus more on self-care acts that help me focus on the importance of feeling confident, happy and strong.
Most likely your photographer will suggest that you just relax! This is a time for you to enjoy the pampering time. Sit down in the studio chair and let the stylist work on your hair and makeup while you get into the mood for posing! Who doesn’t love getting their hair and make-up done? An awesome way to see that self-care in photos for years to come! I have to be honest, sometimes my self-care has been taking a moment after a bad day to just look at my photos. My session was completely for me and I think that is self-care right there!
5. It Is A Ton Of Fun
Who would have thought? You will laugh, you will find your groove and you will get a work out! No seriously, all of these things which means you will have fun and get excited just thinking about the next opportunity you might have to do another session. Laughing really is the best medicine and through out my shoot I was able to laugh and have a really great time with my photographer. At one point during my session I just felt it – I felt those moments of confidence that had me ready for the next pose. A work out you say? Oh yeah and with every pointed toe and tight tummy you will feel it the next day! Just like I mentioned above, who doesn’t love to get dressed up, hair done and make-up on? This is FUN!!
6. Marking Milestones In Your Life
A Boudoir session is a perfect way to mark certain milestones in your life. Had I done this earlier in my life I would have loved to do one at 20, 30, 40 and so on. But since my first shoot didn’t happen until my 37th year I guess I need to find other milestones to mark. My milestone this Boudoir session marks for me is the moment I decided to look at my body as a healthier version of me. Losing 70 pounds is no small feat. Removing the MOM ONLY label is no small feat either. Create moments with these photos and help you and whomever you share the photos with see the person you are at that milestone.
7. Healing Comes In All Forms
I am not ready to open up about everything I am healing from currently but as stated previously, the last year has been difficult. I have a lot of healing to do and while this might seem like a silly way to heal I have to tell you, as a woman that has struggled with body image, self-esteem and feeling like I am not worth love this process and experience has been extremely healing.
People will question me and others about a choice to have photos taken of you in your lingerie but the fact is…it is therapeutic to me. It helps me see that strong and beautiful woman I know I am, especially on those really bad days. I find that I use the “I’m fine” phrase a lot – there are days I am not fine but having a boudoir session has allowed me to have a keepsake for reminders that I am healing and I am becoming a person I and proud of. Broken, damaged or hurting…maybe a few hours with a photographer will help you see your true self.
8. You Are Enough
THIS!! Women we are ENOUGH! Yes, a session like this is an investment but if you read above you can see that this investment touches a lot of pieces of my life now. No matter if you are doing this for just YOU or a partner, you are enough. Take the time, make the budget work and do this. Women, we are beautiful, we are strong, we are amazing…no matter what you do in life you deserve to see that you are enough!

Girl you are brave to share these online but glad your are talking about it! You are 100% right about every point you made! The empowerment you feel after a shoot like this is indescribable but you actually put it into words! With everything going on in my life and my postpartum depression I wish I could do this again to see myself differently than I currently do. 😍
