The Day I Made The Decision
I remember when I was 16 years old and I walked into the DMV to get my driver’s license, it was such a memorable day. It was my 16th birthday and I was ready to be out on the open road in my dad’s minivan! Woohoo!! Another piece of that experience was answering the gal over the counter with a “Yes Absolutely” when she asked me if I wanted to be an organ and tissue donor. Even at 16 I knew this answer without a doubt. Here we are nearly 20 years later and I still have that heart on my driver’s license.
It seemed like such an easy decision for me, but I do remember a few of my friends growing up did not have that heart on their driver’s license and I know there are adults that still have not made the commitment. Today I am bringing the conversation to the table yet again. When you are asked that question, it is time to answer with “Yes! Absolutely!”

A few months ago, I finally met one of my blogging buddies at a conference. As we sat at the same table at dinner, I learned so much about her organ transplant and how she is on a list for another. The list is daunting, and here she sits, watching her son grow older thanks to those donations and yet, she needs another. After having dinner with her, something clicked, these donor lists are long, and we need more people to be willing to add that heart to their driver’s licenses. I am on a mission to tell my friend’s story and share how easy it is to become an organ, eye and tissue donor.
Colorado Donor Dash – A Run For Life
Now that you are an organ, eye and tissue donor it is time for some fun! Time to raise awareness, donate to the cause, run for fun and celebrate all of those lives that have been saved due to organ, eye and tissue donors around our community! To do this Donor Alliance puts on the Donor Dash. The Colorado Donor Dash is a 5K run/walk to honor the lives of organ and tissue donors, celebrate the lives of organ and tissue recipients and recognize those who continue to wait for a lifesaving transplant.

The 2018 Colorado Donor Dash will be on Sunday July 15th at 8am in Washington Park Denver Colorado. What a great location too. This event is perfect for families to enjoy together or for those that love doing 5K runs. The best part about this event is the celebration, take time to learn about how organ donation has changed people’s lives and go for a walk on a beautiful Colorado morning!
Colorado Donor Dash Registration Deadlines:
- Team Registration closes on 7/8/18
- Individual Registration closes on 7/13
- On-site registration is available day of the event. On-site registration opens Sunday, July 15 at 7 a.m. at the registration tents located near Franklin and Mississippi Streets.
