We love that the kids love to play sports but can we have a moment of honestly here? Sitting in the heat or cold, depending on how Colorado decides to act, can get pretty old very fast. Look, I am all about supporting my kids and love watching them play their sports but the whole practice thing gets rather old. Please tell me I am not alone. Today I am bringing the trophy to practice for my top 3 survival tips for mom during fall ball practice.
3 Survival Tips For Mom: Fall Ball Practice
Before anyone gets angry with me or starts that mommy judging thing, believe me, I love watching my kids at their games and practices but the fact is, some days I would love to zone out and do something else with my time. That being said, I absolutely know that there are moments that my attention is needed but in that 90 minutes, you better believe that I can find some other things to do with my time at the field.
Survival Tip #1: Grab a Coffee (or tea if that’s your thing)
If you are going to be sitting around in your comfortable camping chair on the sidelines you might as well take this time to sip on some coffee or tea. Currently, Colorado has decided to keep summertime around here so I need some ICED coffee for my sideline fun but when fall and winter decide to finally show up you better believe I will be staying cozy and warm with my coffee.
I don’t know about you but most of the time that I drink coffee I feel rushed. Morning craze I down my coffee before heading to the car to take the kids to school. This time at fall ball practice gives me some time to just sit and enjoy my favorite vanilla caramel coffee. Bonus tip: make friends with the other moms on the team. If you are going to be sitting on the sideline for the season you might as well make friends with those ladies going through the same thing you are. Pass the time with some fall ball gossip.
Survival Tip #2: Go For a Walk
We often talk about how “us moms” find it difficult to carve out any time to work out. My kids have practice for 90 minutes, that is a lot of time that I could totally take advantage of. I am going to be honest here, I will not be walking for 90 minutes but there is a lot of potential for getting a nice walk or even a workout in while your kids are practicing. Lucky for us our practices are held at a large high school so there is a track available as well.
Maybe some of those new mom friends you made would do some lunges with you around the track? Might be a long shot but it could turn out to be a little fall ball mom boot camp. Taking a nice walk during practice will not only let you pass the time but you will get those steps in that we are all working so hard to achieve every day.
Survival Tip #3: Enjoy A Little Pyramid Solitaire
While sipping coffee and taking some ME time for a little walk and work out are some of my favorite ways to spend practice I recently found my MOST favorite thing. We all always have our phones on us and I cannot tell you how much time (and brain cells) I kill on social media every day when I have “down time”. Pyramid Solitaire is the perfect solution to that need for electronic entertainment.
What is Pyramid Solitaire?
Pyramid Solitaire is the fastest growing title in MobilityWare’s suite of classic card games. You must clear the pyramid by matching pairs of cards that equal 13. I remember playing Pyramid Solitaire with playing cards in youth group, now the fun fast paced card game that gets your brain working can be done anywhere while you have your phone. I have never been a big card game gal but pyramid solitaire is a favorite of mine because of how fast paced it is. Now that it is a mobile app it is even faster too! Love that.
Obviously, I bring my phone with me to fall ball practice so I have this fun game right in the palm of my hands. Even if I just have a few minutes to kill I can complete a few games. Now that my kids have seen me playing Pyramid Solitaire they have been learning how to play it too. While they cannot go as fast as me, it is great to see them using their growing math skills to complete a game. In my opinion this game app is a great educational option for all ages.

While these suggestions are great distractions for those long days of sitting at practice for your kiddos I also want to remind everyone that these moments will pass before you know it. Parenting and motherhood has seasons and those seasons are quick sometimes. Enjoy your mom moments but also do not feel the mom guilt when you want to escape for a walk, hot coffee or a game of Pyramid Solitaire. Finding that balance is important and healthy.
