By now most of us have probably broken at least one of our new year goals or resolutions – it is okay, no judgement here! But there is one goal that all of us should make sure we have on our list for 2019. Focusing on YOU! Yes, YOU. In this society it seems like we, especially women, are so busy, too busy, to remember that we must take care of our bodies and minds.
A New Goal For The New Year – YOU
Now, I am not one to create resolutions that include a certain amount of weight loss but I am one to create goals for every year that are attainable and beneficial. That being said, in addition to my new 2019 reading goal I am adding ME to my 2019 goal. This might seem a bit of a big goal but it is one that I am working hard on. Readying to hear my first step to achieving this goal?
My Physical Health
If you have been reading my story for awhile you know that one of my biggest challenges in life is my weight and body image. Always has been, maybe one day it won’t be an issue but here we are in 2019 and it is still something that I struggle with daily. Like I said, I am not focusing on the numbers on the scale this year, but instead I am focusing on the act of physical activity and making sure I get more of it.
I have been working from home for almost 2 years and I had big plans to make sure that with my new flexibility in my work schedule I would add working out to every day. Well, schedules got crazy, I made other things priorities and here we are another year of feeling not at my best.
My Plan For Creating A Better Exercise Plan For 2019
Make YOU The Priority
If you are like me, you often feel that guilt of walking away from the house that needs to be cleaned, kids that need help with homework and work that needs to be done for your day job but this year I am challenging myself (and you) to stop that guilt. Health in every form is important. For me, when I am feeling the happiest it is because I am also taking care of myself physically. So, when it is time for you to hit the gym, go on a walk or take that yoga class – DO IT!
Schedule It
I write everything down in my planner, I might be considered a planner addict and I absolutely love checking off my tasks on my to do list so I decided that I need to add my physical activity to my planner. It will help me see that time as an item on my task list for the day. Laundry – CHECK, grocery shopping – CHECK, Gym – CHECK! In addition to this help you see this time as an important task it will help your family and partners also see this time as something “in the books”.
Dress To Impress Yourself
Now, I am not telling you to go out and break the bank and buy a ton of new work out clothing but I am telling you that sometimes a little investment is important and that can include your clothing. For me, I want to feel good about what I am wearing and my raggedy yoga pants I wear for PJs is not doing the trick. HA! For the new year I picked up some new workout wear that I felt good in and vowed to wear them only for working out!
Stay Proud
Tell everyone about your achievements. So you completed a workout class you have been itching to try for a few years – YAY! – share that excitement. If you are one to “check in” at the gym, do it! Not only are you keeping yourself accountable but you are showing your goal being achieved!! I also love seeing when friends use apps to compete in walking and activity challenges. What a fun way to connect with your friends. No matter how you do it – stay proud of the work you are doing.
Find A Judgement Free Zone
I always get excited when I start a new exercise plan but then I think about the gym. I have gym anxiety, not because I have had a bad experience at a gym or some one has been rude to me while in a gym but because of my own self judgement. That is why when finding a gym I need to know that I am walking into a space that is safe and fits my gym anxiety style. In addition to a gym I am comfortable in, I need a gym that is in our budget. Gym fees can be crazy expensive but Planet Fitness has us covered.
