Summer break is here which means it is time to find that perfect summer book to read. I must admit that my reading has been slowing down, our lives have been a bit crazy lately so I suppose that is why. But, I am here once again to tell you how I am doing on my 2019 Reading Goal. I have read 10 books so far in 2019. Which is a pretty amazing thing for me, I am right on track for hitting that 24 books read in 2019.
For my 10th book I picked up The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. I asked for this book for my birthday after seeing such great reviews from other friends on Goodreads. I could tell it was going to be a great chic lit summer read book with a hint of mystery. While it did take me longer to read this book than I would like to admit (I blame the end of the school year!) I do think this could be classified as THE PERFECT SUMMER READ!
The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read.
My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died…
Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive. . . .
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.
Acclaimed author Liane Moriarty has written a gripping, thought-provoking novel about how well it is really possible to know our spouses—and, ultimately, ourselves.
My Review of The Husband’s Secret
Like I said this book did take me a while to finish. I had a rough start with it, I am not sure if it was because of the bouncing perspectives at each chapter or if it was just my mind being too busy with life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Liane Moriarty though. I loved the subtle and not so subtle connections of all of the characters and the tiny mystery that comes about.
My only complaint about this book was the ending. I enjoyed the ending but felt like it was a little to easy and neat. I realize this is not real life but in reality the ending would have turned out a bit more destructive in my opinion. The story took a long time to build and the ending came fast and neat.
While I wouldn’t say this is one of my favorites of 2019 it really was a great book, I felt connected to some the characters – especially Rachel and Tess. As you finish this book make sure you read the epilogue, you start to question how this story could have changed completely. I enjoyed Liane Moriarty’s writing style and know I will be picking up more of her novels soon.
Well there you have it – book number TEN in the books! This book is the perfect book to add to your beach bag this summer. Carefree and fun with some twists. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good chic lit book or those that like some romance with their reading. I am excited for what is next on my reading list. Make sure you check out my Reading Goal for 2019 and some of the books that are on my must read list this year!
