Surviving Family Road Trips
Well our summer break is quickly coming to a close but we still have a handful of family road trips to go on in the coming month. While I would love to tell you that we all LOVE family road trips that just isn’t true. For some reason, both Jude and Teagan hate the idea of being in the car for more than a few minutes. The “Are We There Yet” questions happen as we are leaving our neighborhood. Yeah, it’s that bad!

There are times that we allow the screens to be on for the kids but we do not like that to be the only thing they do while driving. We encourage them to look around at the scenery and also try to have some family conversations without screens involved, what a concept right? To help us with this fun we decided to create a License Plate Car Game that we can print off and use for our road trips.

When we are packing up for a family Road Trip I make sure to print off two copies of this fun car game and grab a few colored pencils for the kids. We tell them when it is time for a screen time break and they can get out their pencils and car game printables and start exploring the cars around us.
What is great about this game is that it works for all ages and it brings some teachable moments to the car as well. We talk about where the states are and what kinds of things we could see in each state. Not only does this get the kids off of their screens but it opens up the car to some great family discussions and memories. I love it!
For the rest of the summer we have some great road trips in Colorado and you better believe we will be bringing these fun car game printables with us when we jump into the car. We decided that we are going to also start keeping a tally on one of all of the different license plates we see. On our last trip we kept seeing Florida license plates…almost too many to count!
