Back-to-School season gives us all the chance to jump into the new school year a HERO! Today we are sharing how we can support our teachers and classrooms, and we are sharing our excitement for a fun new school year!
Jump Into The School Year Like A Hero!
It is what we are all talking about – Back-To-School!! I love this time of the year because it gives us all time to get back into a good routine and allows the kids to have a fresh start at school. Oh and the school supply shopping, of course! Through all of the excitement I am thinking of this transition time from the teacher’s perspective. As a daughter of two retired teachers I remember this time fondly growing up but also know that both of my parents loved when parents took time to become classroom heroes.
School Supplies To Donate
There is plenty of research to show that teachers spend a significant amount of their own money on supplies for their classroom every school year. That being said, I know that is a fact because I saw my own parents do this every school year. Teachers want the very best for each and every one of their students and with school budgets getting tighter, teachers are feeling obligated to buy supplies out of their own pocket!
This statistic should get you to the store NOW – “On average, most spent nearly $500 last year, and one in 10 spent $1,000 or more.” Source. Guys, this is a problem. These teachers need the support of the parents even more than when we were growing up. Start making your list of donations today; the first day of school will be here before you know it.
Stock-Up and Save At Costco
You can be a Classroom Hero by walking into your local Costco and picking up Kleenex® Facial Tissue bundle packs and members even save $4.50 from 8/7-9/1!! A fantastic deal on an item that you know is super helpful to all classrooms. You will see the discount on the price tag when you are shopping in store but you can also get this awesome deal when shopping online.
Depending on the bundle, you will get 10-12 boxes of Kleenex® Facial Tissue and with 43% more tissues per box than the best-selling Kleenex® Facial Tissue box in rest of market (160ct box), your teachers will be thrilled with this donation. Kleenex® Facial Tissue at Costco is truly Made to Give More! A simple way to make sure that teachers are not having to use their own money to purchase simple items like Kleenex® Facial Tissue throughout the school year – yes, that makes you a Classroom Hero!
Get The Kids Involved
Yes, you can be a Classroom Hero but so can your kids. Use this time as a teachable moment by motivating your kids to be generous and think of others. This includes schools, teachers and other classmates! By showing your kids what a Classroom Hero does you will help them start the new school year off right and spread the love all year long!
When we go school supply shopping we make sure to get everything on the classroom list but also add a few other items to donate to each classroom, because this helps cut down on costs for the teacher. This is a perfect time to get the kids involved because they are excited to see their new supplies. When I remind them that others might not have these items and that teachers have to spend their own money for the great projects and learning activities they do throughout the year they totally GET IT! They are eager to help…raising Classroom Heroes!
While we do collect other school supplies to donate to the school we always make sure that we take at least one of these Kleenex® Facial Tissue bundles from Costco to each of the classrooms that our kids are in for the year. Think about how much tissue your family goes through in a year, and now think about how many kids walk into your child’s school everyday. While Kleenex® Facial Tissue might not seem like a big deal it really is and the cost will add up for the school and teachers.
Art School Fun
Our kids go to an art integrated magnet school here in our school district. This is our second year at this school and now that we are familiar with the routines and expectations we are super excited to jump into the school year. Being a classroom hero doesn’t have to be hard, even for those parents who cannot take off from work or other obligations.
Check in with your teacher or the administration of your school and find out what supplies are in high demand and how you can help by purchasing those items. When I first asked our teachers last year what we could bring in mid-year both teachers suggested Kleenex® Facial Tissue. I was surprised at first but then I started thinking about how many Kleenex® Facial Tissue boxes we go through at home!
I know that the kids often run for Kleenex® Facial Tissue when they are working on their art work at home so I imagine they do the same at school and since they go to an art integrated school, the Kleenex® Facial Tissue count just keeps getting higher.
How are you stepping up to be a classroom hero this school year?
