Earlier this year I jumped back into the world of Reformer Pilates and I haven’t been happier! I have to be honest, I have never enjoyed working out. That was until I was introduced to Reformer Pilates about 5 years ago. From the moment I experienced my first class I was hooked and knew that this was a workout that I loved doing.
With the help of my 4-5 reformer Pilates classes a week and being more aware of what I am eating I have created a journey of losing over 65 pounds in 7 months. My journey is not over and I have more goals to achieve but without finding MY workout I know I wouldn’t be where I am today. So today, I am encouraging you all to try Reformer Pilates and sharing some of my favorite Pilates Essentials!
My Favorite Pilates Essentials
Grip or Toe Stocks
For Pilates you are going to want to invest in some toe socks or yoga/Pilates socks to not only keep the studio cleaner and healthier but keep you from getting hurt on the equipment. These are my favorite because they stay in place. These yoga socks from QING are the ones I have used for 6 months. They are great quality and you can buy them in bulk! Purchase here.
Water Bottle
Stay hydrated. While Reformer Pilates is not an exercise that will have you dripping with sweat it is important that you stay hydrated in order to help your muscles heal. In general it is a goal of mine to drink enough water through out the day but on my Pilates days I always try to get in a bit extra. This new water bottle helps me stay focused on how much water I should be drinking through out the day! So easy and motivating! Purchase the 128 ounce Motivational Leakproof Water bottle with straw here.
Compression Yoga Pants
When I do Pilates I want to make sure my instructor can really see where my movements are. This allows them to correct me and make sure I am not going to hurt my body during these classes. I love wearing long compression yoga pants for this reason. They keep me comfortable and ready to take on the class with confidence! Purchase yours today!
Hair Ties
Now that my hair is grown out this is a must have in my Pilates bag. I cannot stand my hair getting in my face when I am working out so finding some hair ties that do not damage my hair and stay in place while doing my Pilates flow is important. These no crease ouchless ties are by far my very favorite hair ties to have on hand now.
Apple Watch
I was never into having a fitness tracker but since I work from home now I found myself being less and less active. Adding an Apple Watch to my daily attire not only motivates me to get up and move through out the day but it also helps me see those calories and workouts add up when I head to my Pilates classes! Motivation!! Buy your Apple Watch today and get tracking!
Granola Bars
Or any kind of after workout snack. Some days I find myself running from one thing to another with no time to sit and have a meal after my Pilates class. For those days I always have one of my favorite granola bars on hand. It is a great way to feel refueled after a good workout! These Kind Bars are my favorite!
After Workout Wipes
For those days that I have little time to freshen up after my Pilates class I carry these Fitness Wipes with me. It is a great way to feel refreshed and cleaned up after a workout when you do not have time to go home for a shower. The mint fragrance is great on these HyperGo: Full Body Fitness wipes!
Hand Sanitizer
Think about how many hands and feet touch things in a Pilates studio. Yuck! Yes we do clean our stations before heading out but the fact is, GERMS. Once I get to my car I always use some Hand Sanitizer.
Trigger Point Roller Ball
You know after you have one of those amazing workouts and it hurts so good? Yeah that is what Pilates does for me. I am never uncomfortable but I love feeling that my muscles have been worked and challenged. When I get home sometimes there are areas of my body that just need a little help and I use the Trigger Point Roller Ball to really get in there and work out those spots. I think everyone should have one of these Trigger Point Roller Balls in every room of the house.
A Good Buddy
Having a workout partner is a great way to add a little social life to your work outs but also have that accountability! That is how my love of Reformer Pilates started. My BFF was living here in Colorado so we decided to join a club and jump in. Since then she has moved away but now I have another buddy that I love seeing at Pilates when we can make our schedules match. It is just a nice way to stay connected and motivated!
A Fun Pilates Studio
There are many Pilates Studio options out there. Try a few and get a feel for the instructors and studio. The important part of this is finding a space you are comfortable and motivated to continue your Pilates journey.
