Today I am super excited to share a new book that you must add to your reading list for 2020 but also super happy to share that as of today I have read TWO books in 2020…this reading goal and motivation is working out so far this year! Time to keep it up! For my second book read of 2020 I was honored to work with author Kate Clayborn with the release of her new book, Love Lettering. Once I saw the cover of this book I knew it would be one that I wouldn’t be able to put down. I read this book in two days and stayed up way too late both nights. HA! Don’t you love when books do that to your bedtime?
Book Review #2 – 2020 Reading Goal
Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn
In this warm and witty romance from acclaimed author Kate Clayborn, one little word puts one woman’s business—and her heart—in jeopardy . . .
Meg Mackworth’s hand-lettering skill has made her famous as the Planner of Park Slope, designing beautiful custom journals for New York City’s elite. She has another skill too: reading signs that other people miss. Like the time she sat across from Reid Sutherland and his gorgeous fiancée, and knew their upcoming marriage was doomed to fail. Weaving a secret word into their wedding program was a little unprofessional, but she was sure no one else would spot it. She hadn’t counted on sharp-eyed, pattern-obsessed Reid . . .
A year later, Reid has tracked Meg down to find out—before he leaves New York for good—how she knew that his meticulously planned future was about to implode. But with a looming deadline, a fractured friendship, and a bad case of creative block, Meg doesn’t have time for Reid’s questions—unless he can help her find her missing inspiration. As they gradually open up to each other about their lives, work, and regrets, both try to ignore the fact that their unlikely connection is growing deeper. But the signs are there—irresistible, indisputable, urging Meg to heed the messages Reid is sending her, before it’s too late . . .
My Review of Love Lettering
When I first read about Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn I was pretty sure it was going to be a book that I would read quickly. Sure enough it was. From the moment I saw the cover of this book I was in love. As a planner lover and a paper and pen fanatic I related to Meg; although I am no where near the artist she was.
I enjoy a good chic lit book – humor with a side of romance is the perfect kind of book in my opinion. While this book did have some silly parts I found myself loving the awkward moments that Meg found herself in. The character development around Meg and Reid was fantastic. I wanted to hang out with Meg and have her create my own custom planner and have a drink with her!
The romance and relationship that Reid and Meg shared was real. A relationship that seemed likely in a big city. And it was clear that in this situation opposites attract! But the other relationship in the book that I found myself rooting for was Meg and her BFF, Sibby. The last year or so it has been clear to me that friends really are a gift and I loved seeing that gift between Meg and Sibby.
Kate Clayborn let us into this ordinary girl’s life and got to experience her ordinary love story…with a few crazy twists. Her writing and character development was exceptional not to mention the setting of this story was perfect! This is my first experience with Kate Clayborn’s writing and I am really excited to jump into some of her other books soon.
Meet Kate Clayborn
Kate Clayborn lives in Virginia, where she’s lucky enough to spend her days reading and talking about all kinds of great books. At home she’s either writing, thinking about writing, or—during long walks around her fabulous neighborhood—making her handsome husband and sweet-faced dog listen to her talk about writing.
Other books by Kate Clayborn include; Beginners Luck, Best of Luck and Luck of the Draw.
