I love chocolate and cherry so when I started looking through pantry for something to make for dessert I was inspired when I saw some cherry pie filling. Look, I could eat the cherry pie filling with a spoon but I know there are much better dessert options. During this crazy time, it can be hard to find all of the ingredients you might need for a homemade cake but this Chocolate Cherry Upside Down Cake can be made with just a few items and it is SO worth it!
Ingredients:
Devils Food Box Cake Mix
Ingredients To Prepare Cake Mix
2 cans of Cherry Pie Filling
Directions:
1. Prepare box cake mix as directed on box in a medium mixing bowl.
2. Prepare a 9×13 dish with cooking spray. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
3. Pour cherry pie filling into prepared baking dish and spread out cherries evenly on the bottom of the dish.
4. Carefully pour prepared cake mix over the cherry pie filling and spread out cake mix evenly.
5. Bake cake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
6. Remove cake from oven and slice in square pieces, when serving cake, flip the piece of cake upside down to have the cherry pie filling on top of the baked cake.
7. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or ice cream! ENJOY!!
This cake comes out super moist and delicious. It is fun how the chocolate cake bakes on top of the yummy cherry pie filling. This is a great way to make an upside down cake easily. I am actually really excited to try this with other flavors of pie filling. So many yummy options.
