I know, you must be so surprised to see another book review so quickly but it is true! Today I am sharing my 10th book read in 2020! While I am behind on my goal for the year I am still thrilled with how I am doing. I am hoping that I can continue my reading streak and still make my goal. For my 10th book read in 2020 I set down the chic lit and picked up a twisted thriller. One full of family drama and a mystery; The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. This was the first book I have read from Shari Lapena and after reading more about her books I think I will be searching for a few more.
Book 10 Read In 2020
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all–a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately focuses on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.
Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they’ve kept for years.
What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family–a chilling tale of deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.
My Review Of The Couple Next Door
This was a pretty fast read for me, which was nice. While I would only give this book 3 stars I did enjoy it. The story line is pretty twisted and the connections made through out the book are a great addition to the character building. I did find that I wanted to know more about the characters past; maybe that would show why they were all tangled up in this mess.
I felt connected to Anne as a mother. Wanting to escape the world of parenting for one night of fun that then leads to something awful and unthinkable. Knowing that her husband was part of this unthinkable thing made me so angry at him. I enjoy a good psychological thriller and while this book does have some thrill, I was kind of expecting a little more!
I am not exactly sure what was missing from this story but I have a feeling that if I was given more character information and development that I would have loved this book. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs a fast thrilling read. Do not expect to be blown away by her writing but do find yourself in the shoes of the characters a few times while reading.
Welp, book 10 wasn’t my favorite but it did have me step out of my chic lit genre for a few days. I do love a good “who did it” story so while it wasn’t the best written book it was one that had me turning pages. I am excited to knock out 10 books for 2020!! I cannot wait to share book 11 with you soon!! I am always looking for new books to add to my reading list so please share some books you have really enjoyed recently. Make sure you check out my 2020 Reading List and Goal too. Maybe you can add some of my books to your list this year!
