You must be confused with me sharing another book review so quickly…but that is what happens when you escape for a week and have time to just sit and enjoy a book. For my 12th book read in 2020 I picked up a book that I bought at the Barnes and Noble Starbucks MONTHS ago that was a $5.00 deal. I am so glad that the cover caught my eye because it really was a perfect lakeside read. Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch was light hearted and fun. This is the first time I have read anything from Jenna Evans Welch but I know it won’t be the last!
Book 12 Read In 2020
Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is go back home.
But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires her, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself. People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.
My Review of Love & Gelato
First of all, I think I really enjoyed this book because it was about traveling. Remember when we used to do that? HA!! Anyway, when I bought this book I thought it was going to be a chic lit book but as I kept reading I did start thinking that this COULD be considered a Young Adult read just because it was about high school students. Doesn’t bother me at all as I am a YA book lover as well.
This whole story is all about friendships, love, finding your TRUE self and growing older. With out giving too much away, I did enjoy how Lina’s mom helped her see how her live was shaped all while visiting and living in Italy. As adults I think we often look back on our choices as a young adult and see how those experiences really made us who we are as adults.
I found myself laughing through this book too. Bits of childish humor and great descriptions of the tourist spots through out Florence really made me enjoy this book. It was a super fast read, cute and light hearted…honestly, exactly what I needed!
I wouldn’t say this was full of character development or a book that will move you but it is a book that you will enjoy. For those wondering about the appropriateness for young adults…yes, I do think a high school reader would enjoy this book as well and could probably really relate to what Lina was experiencing when it comes to love and friendships.
Book 12 was a pretty typical chic lit and I loved it. Currently, I am reading my 13th book and it is from one of my favorite authors….you won’t be surprised when you see that review in a few weeks. While I am still pretty far from my goal for 2020, I am hoping to keep making big progress towards 24 books read!! I am always looking for new books to add to my reading list so please share some books you have really enjoyed recently. Make sure you check out my 2020 Reading List and Goal too. Maybe you can add some of my books to your list this year!
