Before we know it, fall will be here.  While I love summertime, fall is my very favorite season of the year.  I love the weather, the smells, the activities and the food.  As we start to see summertime slip away I am always excited to star thinking about how to make some yummy, creative and fun fall treats.  These Donut Hole Acorns are the perfect treat for any fall gathering or special activity with kids.

Donut Hole Acorns

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 3-4 minutes | Servings: 16

Ingredients:

16 donut holes
Light brown candy melts
Various fall colored sprinkles
Chopped nuts
Pretzel Sticks – broken in half

Instructions:

1. Place the candy melts into a microwave safe bowl. Heat the candy on the defrost setting of the microwave for 1 minute at a time, stopping to stir after each round of cooking. Continue to cook in the microwave until the candy is completely melted and smooth.

2. Shape each donut hole into a rough acorn shape. You can do this by squeezing the sides in slightly, and flattening the top a bit.

3. Holding the pointed end of each donut hole, dip the top of it into the melted candy to create the cap of the acorn.

4. Place one broken pretzel stick into the top of the “acorn” to create a stem.

5. Add some fall colored sprinkles or chopped nut to the melted candy on each dipped donut hole, and place them onto a parchment lined baking sheet to dry.

6. Place the dipped donut hole acorns into the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes to set, and then serve.
