Well the year 2011 is winding down and I have read 4 books so far. I am proud of that but next year my goal will not be 11 or 12! It was a big goal and I think by December 31st I will have read at least 5 books. Again, very proud!
So for book number 4 I dove into a book that is slowly becoming like Twilight – I had to figure out what everyone was raving about.
The Hunger Games is book #1 of 3 in the series written by Suzanne Collins. This book is geared towards the young adult reader so it made for a fast read for me. Love that! I was pleasantly surprised and even found myself not being able to go to sleep at night – couldn’t put the book down!
This book reminded me of “Brave New World” and even “The Giver”.
When
you first start reading you find out some important information about this “World”.
North America as we know it has been destroyed and is now divided into 12
districts, ruled by a domineering government located at what is called the
Capitol. Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old
girl from District 12, takes her younger sister’s place as one of 24 “tributes”
selected every year to participate in the Hunger Games at the Capitol.

Suzanne does an amazing job of helping the reader visualize the transformation and experience that Katniss has while trying to stay alive during the Hunger Games. What a world to live in. A world that watches their own children fight ’till the death all televised publicly in the 12 districts. What a heartless thing for the government to do. I was hooked from the first page of this book.
Like I said, this is book 1 of 3 so you better believe I am reading #2 now!!
Just like the Twilight Series, The Hunger Games will be out in the movie theater soon too. I saw the trailer and I am excited, it looks like they did a great job following the book.
Overall, this was a great book – I recommend it to anyone who wants to escape from reality for a couple of days. :O)
I am not a book reader at all. I will read research online about products and how to's all day but books are a no go so I am so jealous that you are. Good for you!!!
Following by from the Monday Hop.
Have a great day!

Awesome! I'm probably going to have to add this to my list. I saw the movie preview when I was watching Breaking Dawn and I heard some people raved about this book.
Now I'm excited and want to go get the book right now.
Hands down! My favorite books. Great review!
I loved the first book too – you're in for a treat with the other two as well! Have you seen the trailer for the movie yet? It looks like it might live up to the hype, for once…
