Most of our New Years Resolutions or Goals, as I like to call them, have probably gone off of our radar but I am happy to announce that one of our 2014 Goals is still in full affect in our house! Saving Money! I announced in January that we would be doing the 52 Week Money Challenge x2 and guess what…we are still doing it! Yay us! On top of that simple savings plan we have been really focusing on the products and items we use daily and looking at how we can cut costs and save money and energy while doing so.

When I start looking around our house I see light bulbs, lots of light bulbs. I started doing some research on the cost of light bulbs and the energy that is used and found a great energy consumption calculator from GE and I was hooked! A simple change in our home could help us save money and energy. Not only is this a great thing for us as a family but also a great change for the Earth.

After doing my research I headed to Walmart to pick up 15 new GE LED Energy Smart Light Bulbs. These 15 bulbs will allow me to change the light bulbs in the kitchen, living room and bathroom – the rooms that get the most usage when it comes to lighting. I was really excited to see the different types of LED bulbs that GE has in their Energy Smart line. Even outdoor lights! Perfect for the upcoming warm weather months when we use our backyard more. I plan on purchasing some for the backyard too! More savings and less energy!

When I was going through the house and changing all of the bulbs I was able to give my very curious 3 year old a lesson on being kind to the Earth.  This was a very fitting conversation since April is Earth month; although every month we should be focusing on ways to better our world.  I told him I was switching to better light bulbs that would not only save us money but also use less energy which helps the Earth stay healthier and happier.
When we were done changing the light bulbs I showed him our trash cans and our recycling cans and we talked about why we try to recycle as a family.  We also talked about how we try really hard to conserve the energy we use by turning off the lights when we leave a room – this is a task that Jude is really good at thankfully!  I was happy that Jude started to see why we do the things we do in our home.  Recycling and conserving the energy is good for the Earth but great for our checkbook too.

The evening that I changed the bulbs I noticed immediately that the new LED light bulbs were super bright LEDs!  The Energy Smart bulbs really made a difference in the light in our kitchen!  I love it now.  The Soft White bright light is perfect!  I am really pleased with our decision to make a simple change in our home.

Check out how we are saving money as a family.  New LED TEchnology and our 52 Week Money Challenge jar!  These simple changes are helping us saving money and teach our kiddos the importance of conservation of Energy and Money.
After changing to the GE LED Energy Smart Light Bulbs I tallied up how much money we saved by simply changing out 15 bulbs in our home.  Ready for this?
We will be saving $88.53 per year!
That is almost $100.00!  Well worth the 2 minutes it took to change those bulbs.  Curious about how much money you could save per year if you change out some or all of your light bulbs?  Simply go to the savings calculator that GE has provided.

What is your number?  What will you do with your extra money?  I have a couple of ideas for our $88.53 – Date Night, Shopping Spree, Family Pictures, Day Trip, Savings or a family movie theater trip?  So many options.  I do know that I am grateful for our savings but also really proud of our changes because the changes will help our Earth be happier and healthier with the energy savings we have provided as well.  Something that I think about every time I walk into our bathroom, kitchen and living room when I turn on the lights.
#LEDSavings is easy!  I hope you all take advantage of the savings that GE is offering with this great coupon offer – valid though May 1st 2014.
Stay up to date with Money and Energy Savings from GE on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and their easy to use Website.

I'd like to switch and save, as long as the LED lights aren't too harsh or glaring. Thanks for the tips!
