I am sure most of you have heard of Voodoo Doughnut in Oregon, especially if you watch Food Network! Well lucky for us Voodoo Doughnut is now a Mile High! Welcome to Denver Voodoo! Okay, they have been located in Denver for a while now but we finally decided to make the trip, brave the line with the kids and indulge in the goodness of Voodoo.
Voodoo Doughnut Mile High is located at 1520 East Colfax, Denver 80218. We took a little drive found a decent parking spot on the street and found our spot in line. The line was out the door but we were ready to wait. We got to Voodoo around 10am on Memorial Day (Monday).
My biggest worry was having to wait in line on a busy street with the two kiddos. We brought some coloring books for Jude and when Teagan had enough we caved and let her watch Elmo on my phone. All of the people in the line with us were super nice and the talk was all about what doughnuts everyone wanted.
The moment we got close enough to open the door we could smell the amazing Voodoo Doughnut smell! YUM!! We were ready to eat! We made it to the front of the line in about 20-25 minutes. Not complaining, I have heard of an hour wait before!
Tips for visiting Voodoo Doughnut Mile High:
- This is a CASH only venue! ATMs are available.
- Do NOT park in any of the parking lots near the venue. You will be towed. These are good doughnuts…but not THAT good! 😉
- Be prepared to wait in line but do not be overwhelmed by the line. They move super fast and get you in and out with your doughnuts!
- Look online to see the doughnut varieties first.
- Open 24/7! Get a Voodoo craving at 1am go have a visit! Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
- There is NOT a place to sit inside…plan to have a picnic or head home to enjoy your goodies.
- Be ready to be open to try new flavors!
- Be happy…be nice…tip!
We made it!! We started thinking about what we would leave with and came up with a plan to do a Bakers Dozen. This was a way to get a good amount of varieties but the cashier is the one that picked them. We did add a couple special doughnuts to our order as well.
Both Jude and Teagan loved watching the doughnuts go around and around in this display. They were picking out which ones they wanted. Jude decided he had to have the purple one (Grape Ape) and Teagan kept pointing at the fruit loop topped one (The Loop).
Look at all those doughnuts!! Yum! They are busy doughnut makers that’s for sure! Being so busy and open 24 hours has to be a non-stop production. Amazing!
The atmosphere of Voodoo Doughnut Mile High is a lot of fun. It is bright and full of fun artwork and music. I especially enjoyed the humorous apparel. “Good Things Come in Pink Boxes”! ha! Jude also decided that the Voodoo logo looked like the Shadow Man from Disney Princess and the Frog. Smart boy!
And now time to share the goodies. The good, the bad and the fantastic!
Jeremy was most excited for the Bacon Maple Bar Doughnut. He said it was so good and that he could eat one every day. Basically like having pancakes, maple syrup and bacon in one lovely treat.
Teagan enjoyed her Loop Doughnut. She loves Fruit Loops so she mostly enjoyed the yummy vanilla frosting and fruit loops for breakfast.
The Grape Ape was a hit! And I agree with Jude, it was good. The grape flavor really came out in the grape dust. I would buy this one again for sure.
This was the one I picked. Pretty right? Introducing the Miami Vice Berry Doughnut. NOM!! So summery and yummy!
I also tried the Mexican Hot Chocolate. This has cinnamon sugar and cayenne pepper on it! Yikes! I could taste the KICK but it wasn’t horrible and I am a baby! Pretty good actually!
Jeremy also tried the Arnold Palmer flavor. Arnold Palmer is by far his favorite drink. The doughnut, however, was not. An interesting take on a doughnut that’s for sure. We decided to freeze the “leftovers” to enjoy through out the week. This morning I tried a Toasted Coconut cake doughnut and it was SOOOO good…I love coconut! 😉
We had a fun morning with Voodoo Doughnut, it was a special treat for us all. We might have to take our visiting family there for a treat this summer too.
Have you visited a Voodoo Doughnut yet? What flavor would you want to try first?
This is NOT a sponsored post!
I am DYING to go! My derby girls love the original and I trust them!
Well shoot and of course I trust you too! TOO much wine tonight, clearly
I am absolutely amused at all the hype about Voodoo. It's very similar to when Crispy Cream came to Colorado years ago and we all sat in car lines a mile long just to order what amounted to just a doughnut! LOL!
@heidi – I hope this doesn't compare to Krispy Cream!
Censie – I can't wait to try these when we are in Denver NEXT WEEK ! I remember seeing them on the food network on man vs. food. We will plan on going at a non-morning/breakfast time. How long did you end up waiting? I think we will have to get a few to have too! yum yum.
I've been scared to go because everyone I know has waited in line for more than an hour. And it's not a quick trip for us either. Wondering if the buzz will wear off anytime soon? I'm waiting for that.
I have always wanted to do the Doughnut run! It looks like an amazing time. Hopefully I have the chance! Yum!!

I'm out of the loop on this one- never heard of it! We'll have to make a trip this summer- thanks for the tips!
