Guess what friends?  Kool-Aid isn’t just great for drinking it is great for cooking!  I decided that I would create a yummy dessert for our upcoming Fourth of July celebrations with the family using Kool-Aid.

3.  Separate the marshmallow mixture into 3 separate bowls that have each been sprayed with cooking spray.
4.  Create your colors!  Add the 2 Kool-Aid powder packets to the RED bowl.  Mix well.  I ended up adding a couple drops of RED food coloring as well to make the RED brighter.  Create your BLUE color with the food coloring.
5.  Add Rice Cereal into each of the bowls.  Mix each color well until the Rice Cereal is completely covered.  I did this with my hands – time for gloves!!

6.  Evenly press layered mixtures into a pan of your choice that has been sprayed well with cooking spray.  Create your RED, WHITE and BLUE treats!
7.  Add sprinkles to the top of your treats.  Cool completely before cutting treats.  Enjoy!!

I cannot wait to share these Kool-Aid Fourth of July Rice Krispie Treats with Jeremy’s family!  I know they will be a hit.  For this batch I used a Watermelon Kool-Aid powder and the next time I think I want to try a Cherry flavor.  Rice Krispies are a really easy dessert to make for a large party but finding a way to make them even sweeter, more colorful and creative makes this dessert a hit in my book!
What are your dessert plans for the 4th? Keeping it RED, WHITE and BLUE?

Do you find that it works better on the stove top with the coloring than in the microwave? I always just do the microwave version and curious if you know the difference. Thanks!

Made 2 batches, first batch kool aid flavor too strong, I would only use one packet, very sour! Second batch I doubled recipe & used 2 packets of kool aid, tasted much better & made nice 9×13.
