School is here! Did you get everything completed, turned in and ready for school registration? I’ve decided that the list for Back To School seems to get longer with every year of school a child completes. School supplies, snack lists, health check and required vaccines and so much more. It’s almost like the parents have homework for the summer to get all of these requirements completed. Exhausting.
There is one thing on that never-ending list that can be somewhat of a source of anxiety for both kids and parents. Those lovely immunizations. Yikes, I mean lets be real, shot day for any of us is not fun but for kids it is even worse. While parents are struggling to get everything completed on their homework list for Back To School the kids are freaking out about shot day. What a fun combination {eye roll}!

When it is time for immunizations I have to prepare Jude for it.  He does not do well with a surprise attack and I have found that if I make him aware of what we will be doing at the doctor’s office it goes much better for everyone involved.  This year I also decided to make Jude a special Shot Day Prep Kit.  Guess what, it worked beautifully which means I also decided to make one for Teagan for her required vaccines in October!  Mom FOR THE WIN!

Shot Day Prep Kit For Kids

I found these great mini suitcases to stuff full of great kid friendly items that will help them get through their upcoming shot day.  I wanted these kits to be fun but full of items that will actually help a child feel better after getting vaccines.
What I included:
  • Band-Aids
  • Ice Pack
  • Lollipop
  • Juice
  • A new stuffy to hug
  • Favorite candy

This kit was super easy to build and when I handed the kit to Jude before his appointment I could tell he was nervous but excited to use his kit to help him be a big boy through the required vaccines that he had to get.

These kits are so easy to personalize too and because I found those adorable suitcases I plan on reusing them any time the kids have to get immunizations.  As Jude has gotten older it has been a lot easier to talk to him about why we get immunizations.  We simply tell him that we want him to be happy and healthy which means protecting him from certain things that can make him very sick.  I know it is scary for him but the more open we are with him the better, he wants to know everything so we tell him exactly what shots he is getting too.  It was pretty cute to see him walk into the pharmacy with his little suit case ready for his vaccines.

Like I said before, that list, check it twice!  Did you forget those required immunizations?  No worries, Walgreens knows how busy we are and how long that list is!  Walgreens is an easy stop for immunizations and back to school items for busy families like us.  If you forgot the glue sticks, folders and vaccines you do not have to rush around town.  Simply stop at your local Walgreens and get that list complete in no time – especially because you can walk right in!  No appointment necessary to get those vaccines taken care of.   Most insurance is accepted and the Walgreens pharmacist will make sure your primary care physician is aware of the visit and the outcome.

Walgreens knows the importance of children getting immunizations and helping kids stay happy and healthy so when your child gets their school immunizations, like whooping cough or meningitis, they are also helping another child in need of a shot.  This program is called Get a Shot. Give a Shot®.  Walgreens will help provide a life saving immunization to a child in a developing country through the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign.  How cool is that?  This program is specifically for children ages 7 and up and a perfect teachable moment for those children.

Now that you have the list complete it is time to enjoy the school year!  I cannot believe how fast the summer went but I am super excited to see what is in store for this school year.  I hope your family has a happy and healthy year!!  Be Well!

I love these little shot day kits! The boxes you put them in are so cute too! Lennox is not a fan of shots but we are getting better! So easy that you can get your shots done now at Walgreens and help out another child too!
