We have been busy preparing for Fall and part of those preparations include a school field trip for Jude to a great place in Colorado called Miller Farms. Miller Farms is located in Northern Colorado in a town called Platteville.
This was our second year visiting Miller Farms and it was another successful year. This time we were prepared for the abundance of produce we could walk away with! Yummy!
But before we headed out to the fields we had to visit some special CARS.
The weather was perfect – maybe even a little TOO warm for Fall but since we got there early in the morning we missed the afternoon heat and sun.
The best thing about these field trips is getting to see Jude have fun with his friends from school. Also it helps us put faces to the names we hear every week. This buddy of Jude’s isn’t in his class anymore but they have stayed great friends this year even though they only see each other at recess. Too cute!
Jude decided he wanted his picture by the eggplant this year. Sounds good buddy! Man that sun was bright!!
If you plan on visiting Miller Farms make sure you plan for enough time to not only visit the fields but enjoy the fun statues, mazes, cars and planes! This place is perfect for any child that loves to climb and explore!
Oh and don’t forget the GIANT dirt hill! Boys will be boys! Jude and his buddies ran, crawled, climbed, scooted and ROLLED down the dirt hill. Such a great energy burn – although you do find yourself finding dirt in places you never thought was possible!
These three are great friends. Again, I love seeing Jude with his friends. I see all of them growing up into great kiddos.
Jude’s class! Pre-K 2014! What a fun group of kiddos! A lot of his classmates are new friends but we are always hearing about his friends and fun he has every day. Notice Jude is the tallest! Big guy!
Its true – LOADS of FUN!!
After some dirt hill fun and pictures we headed out to the fields. Last year we had NO idea what we were getting into.
My tips for visiting Miller Farms:
1. Bring your own bags – heavy duty canvas bags are perfect!
2. Bring your own gloves and gardening tools!
3. BUG SPRAY!!!!
4. WATER!!
This year we had a great time in the fields. The whole group rides out into the fields in a Hayrack Ride which the kids love. We make multiple stops at different veggie fields. As Miller Farms guests you walk away with ORGANIC veggies at an amazing price.
I love visiting Miller Farms because it gives us a chance to show Jude a working farm and also have him see the hard work that farmers do every day!
For this visit we got to pick the following veggies:
Onions – HUGE onions! So good too!
Corn – beautiful fresh corn!
Green Beans – perfect for steaming!
Potatoes – YES hello potato soup!
Carrots – SUPER huge and hard to get out of the ground but so worth the struggle!
Pumpkins – got a couple for our porch
We also have the option to get beets and kale. We passed on those things for personal liking.
We will continue to visit Miller Farm every Fall and enjoy the amazing produce and farming experience.
Have you visited a working farm in your area? What did you harvest?
This looks like fun! I haven't brought Lennox to an actual farm – only the apple orchard. We do have one near us though, we should make a trip! Looks like you had a good time.
