I have many jobs as a mother and at my full time job outside of the home. In each of those positions I find myself with parts of the jobs I love and some that I am not happy about. One of those – Laundry Day. When I first read about Crystal Wash 2.0 I instantly thought about how much easier, cost efficient and environmentally friendly this gadget would make the job of laundry.
What is Crystal Wash 2.0?
I think everyone has seen a form of a laundry ball but this one is in a category of its own. It is an amazingly efficient way to do laundry. It is clinically demonstrated to be as effective as detergent and lasts up to 1000 washes! Sounds great right? Well here is what the team of Crystal Wash wants to see for 2015. A Crystal Wash 2.0 that is “connected”. Our society is connected to everything so why not move towards a connected laundry day?
Science of Crystal Wash 2.0
Crystal Wash is a proven technology that literately lasts for at least 1000 loads of laundry. It uses the power of Bio Ceramics from the earth, which naturally clean your clothes as effectively as laundry detergent. It is better for your skin and more gentle on your fabrics. It is also better for the environment because it reduces contaminated waste water filtered back into the water supply, saves water by lowering required rinse cycles, and effectively reduces CO2 production by requiring less energy than a traditional detergent based wash.
These special Bio Ceramics were developed using various minerals with very effective antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties. The pH level of laundry water impacts the wash greatly. If the water is overly acidic or alkaline it can damage delicate clothes and fabrics, cause colors to fade and cause clothing to still seem dirty even after washing. Most detergents on the market are a pH level of 6.5 – 9, but they use chemicals to achieve these levels.
As the Bio Ceramics collect odors, dirt and waste from your laundry, they need to be ‘recharged’ in order to make sure the pH levels are staying at 8.5 or greater. To recharge Crystal Wash you simply put them in the sun for an afternoon. You only need to do this approximately every 30 days (or 30 laundry loads). There is nothing else you need to do… Just a little sun and they will be just as effective as their first wash.
Bring on the Connection
All of this seems fantastic. I am totally ready to switch out our laundry detergent for these Crystal Wash 2.0 gadgets but lets be honest. We need to be connected becuase while we all have laundry day, it would be great to have a notice on your personal device of when it is time for the Crystal Wash to be recharged. This is the idea that the team of Crystal Wash is working towards. Bringing these perfectly laundry savers into the connected world!
Here is the plan – By embedding a state-of-the-art pH water sensing chip and a micro-controller with Bluetooth capability inside the current Crystal Wash, they can give users accurate recharge alerts so that they don’t have to remember when it is time to put them in the sun. And while they were at it – why not give users several other tools and features right on their smartphone that will help make doing laundry easier & more effective!!
Status of the Crystal Wash 2.0
“Our development process has gone through a few prototyping phases. Our biggest issues were figuring out how to engineer a miniaturized version that would allow us to fit all the necessary components inside the current Crystal Wash form factor. And how to create a module to best withstand the harsh environmental factors present inside a laundry machine… like water, shock, and temperature exposure.”
I would for sure. I am always looking for ways to cut out chemicals in the products we use daily. I am very careful about what make and lotion I use, so this seems like a natural fit in my household.
Interesting. I'd be willing to try pretty much anything if it means an easier and faster laundry day. I do love that it has an app, though.
I need easier laundry days…could they do it for me?! 😉
This sounds so interesting! I would totally consider it. Having 3 boys, I'm always looking for ways to better our routines without harsh chemicals!
That is sooo cool. I would love to try this out.
Super interesting, particularly the technology aspect of this.
This sounds like a really interesting product!
