2015 is more than a quarter over and guess what?  My reading goal for the year is already behind!! So when I got the opportunity to read The Selection by Kiera Cass I was excited to start my 2015 reading goal with a Cinderella meets The Bachelor Young Adult book, I could not wait.  This opportunity came at the perfect time because we were heading on vacation.  Holding a new paperback book in my hand as we boarded the plane I was ready to read and get lost in this fairy-tale.

When I got this book in the mail I was ready to read it immediately.  The cover is so inviting and intriguing, yes even for this 32 year old.  HA!  I love Young Adult Fiction, there is something so fun about these types of series.  The Selection series provides a light-hearted, romantic alternative to the more intense, dystopian YA novels/movies like Hunger Games.  I loved Hunger Games but this series would be a series I would love to introduce Teagan to in her once she is a young adult.

The Selection

By Kiera Cass

I must say, The Selection was the perfect vacation/poolside book.  I admit it, I love the hopeless romantic stories that leave us hanging on for more love.  I know, weird because I am so not that person in real life but maybe that is why I love these books.  The innocence and fun of new love and finding that perfect ONE.  All of those reasons is exactly why The Selection a book that is super easy to read and maybe a little addictive.  I could hardly put this book down!

America, the main character, lives in a very broken and in the future United States.  The country is broken into casts and she is in one of the lower casts.  The highest cast is searching for a wife for their Prince Maxon and to do this, there is a Selection that takes place that every lady from every cast in the appropriate age group can “enter”.  Think the Bachelor but for young girls ready to reach for that higher cast.  America is selected to be apart of The Selection and goes to the palace but with a heavy heart.  You see, she is in love with Aspen, a lower cast boy that she is ready to marry.  She goes to The Selection knowing she could never find true love with Prince Maxon.

The story builds as she leaves her normal life and enters the life of a possible Princess.  The beautiful palace, the amazing food, the handsome Prince and the gorgeous jewelry and gowns.  Oh this life.  The story telling is perfect, it captures your inner Princess and keeps you guessing.  Will America fall for the Prince?  Will America ever love Aspen again?  Will America love the life of a Princess?

All of that suspense surrounded with the drama of 35 girls after 1 Prince is what kept me reading until early in the morning during vacation.  Thankfully it was on vacation!  HA!  The binge reading continued because once I finished the first book of The Selection Series, I downloaded the second book of the series, The Elite.

Lucky for all of us binge readers once I finish The Elite, I can jump on book 3, The One and then on May 5th the new release of book 4, The Heir will perfectly timed to continue the series!

I know that this series will be one that makes lists!  I am happy that with the help of this series my 2015 Reading Challenge has become a lot easier!  My goal of 5 books will be close in no time!  I am pleased to say that I would recommend The Selection for anyone that wants to escape from the real world and enter the world of a modern Cinderella.  Kiera Cass has done wonderful things with this idea and I am looking forward to my book dates every evening.

Is The Selection a book that you or your daughter would reach for?
