Traditions are important, especially when it comes to family events. One of the traditions that my family has continued for over 35 years is a Father’s Day grill out. Now we are not talking hot dogs and hamburgers – no way, my dad always stepped it up on Father’s Day! Actually, let’s be real, my Mom did all the food prep, Dad was the grill master though. Father’s Day Zesty Steak Shish Kabobs! Honestly, it isn’t Father’s Day with out those kabobs grilling. To make those kabobs even more traditional we never turn on the gas – it is all charcoal for this tradition!
Now that my parents have passed this tradition on to us we still follow through with the Zesty Steak Shish Kabobs and charcoal grilling. We turn off the gas grill and pick up Kingsford Original Charcoal at The Home Depot to prepare for this epic meal that has our family members excited for Father’s Day!
It’s like Kingsford and The Home Depot knows we do this tradition because from 6/18/2015 – 6/21/2015 the Kingsford Original Twinpack is on sale for over half off – $9.88! That is a steal and will make you want to try grilling out without the gas every night!
And now, to share our traditional recipe – I promise it is easy but the best way to enjoy steak kabobs!
Zesty Steak Shish Kabobs
Ingredients:
Steak – we portion out 1 large steak per guest – cubed
Zesty Italian Dressing – at least 2 bottles
Bell Peppers – multiple colors – cleaned and cut into 2 inch bites
White Onions – cleaned and cut into 3 inch slices
Grape Tomatoes
Mushrooms – whole
Any other veggies you like to grill
Ziplock bag
Kingsford Original Briquettes Charcoal
Directions:
1. Prepare steak the night before – cube and put into ziplock bag. Fill bag or cover all steak with the Zesty Italian dressing. Refrigerate over night. Let dressing marinate steak.
2. Day of grilling prepare all veggies – clean and cut.
3. Have the grill master prepare the grill. Get those briquettes a burning!
4. Create beautiful shish kabobs with the marinated steak and fresh veggies.
5. Place on hot grill and let the charcoal do the work!
6. Serve with potatoes or rice for a full meal. Enjoy!
I have enjoyed this zesty steak for over 30 years on Father’s Day – it brings back some great memories of Father’s Day pasts. I hope that Jeremy and I can continue this tradition of turning off the gas and enjoying the charcoal grilled shish kabobs for years to come!
