I have talked about our staycations a lot this summer and we have a few more planned in the next couple of weekends.  These trips will be to the family cabin in beautiful Leadville Colorado.  We are so unbelievably lucky to have a space to literally go to the highest inhabitable point in the mountains to getaway and enjoy the outdoors of Colorado.  This space has so much family history and memories and as the kids get older Jeremy and I are both excited to see how many more memories can be made with our little family.

While staycations certainly save money on traveling there is still the expenses of food.  Over the years I feel like I have really mastered the Mountain Adventure Grocery List Planning and now I am sharing my tips and hints with you!

When I walked into our local Safeway store I was pleasantly surprised with the the Huge Anniversary Sale.  YES!  Perfect timing!!  Not only does this allow me to save more money but most of the items on sale are perfect items to stock up our pantry, freezer and fridge with.  Bonus!!

Now, my normal grocery list did grow by quite a bit due to this amazing anniversary sale however, most of what I bought was already on my grocery list for our upcoming cabin trip.
Tips For Meal Planning in the Mountains:
1.  Figure out the meal quota:  meaning, how many meals will you be preparing.  Example – most of our trips consist of snacks for 2 days, 2 dinners, 1 lunch and 2 breakfasts.  Also keep in mind the number of people eating at each meal.
2.  Meal Plan:  Think about leftovers when planning.  If dinner can turn into a leftover option for a lunch make sure to double the recipe for ease.
3.  Make a list and be planful:  Walk into the grocery store with a plan.  Stick to it.  Write out each meal and the ingredients/items needed.
4.  Shop ahead of time:  Mountain grocers can be limited in the items on the shelves due to numerous people going to the small towns.  Packing items in a cooler to eliminate the mountain grocery store stop will also save you time!
5.  Share the shopping:  if going with more than one family, split up the list and split the bill!

Once you have those meals planned, you are ready for some family fun and mountain air.  I will confess – our meals are easy.  While we do have a stove we tend to go for cold breakfast items, sandwiches for lunches and grilling out for dinners.  Yummy!!  Simple is better in my mind!

We have a few essentials that we love to pick up and lucky us they were on the list for the Huge Anniversary Sale!  OJ on the porch swing in the morning is the best at our cabin.  Call it a tradition but it is better than coffee in our opinion.  For the hubby we have to indulge in the Dew.  Not only does a sale like this allow us to stock up but we are set for the next couple of weekends to the cabin.

Literally, every turn I made in the store I was finding more and more things we could use for the cabin but also for our normal meals.  Jeremy was pretty happy when I came home with some USDA Choice Beef Ribeye Steaks.  That price was so hard to pass up that I decided to buy some extra for the deep freeze!

It was a very successful Mountain Adventure Grocery trip that also led to some amazing savings on the normal items we will be using for back to school lunches and snacks.  Happy Anniversary to Safeway and the other Alberston’s banner stores!

Safeway is my go to grocer. Shop the HUGE Anniversary sale and stock up on your favorite Pepsi and PepsiCo brands 7/29-8/11. I’d love to hear how your family will stock up!

Do you have any staycations planned for the end of the summer?

The cabin is extremely beautiful! I like the idea about Meal Planning as things can get out of whack where Food is concerned if you don't take time to plan
