Over the long weekend, which happened to be my birthday – hello 33 -, we decided to take a trip to the beautiful Colorado mountains.  I had big goals of playing with the kids, reconnecting with the family and relaxing – I do believe that we were successful.  2016 has started with a bang all around.  We have all been pretty sick with a nasty virus that just won’t go away, work has been crazy stressful, school activities are in full swing and after-school activities have picked up; and it is only the 19th day of the new year!  Oh my!!
Knowing that we were going on a little mini getaway over my birthday weekend meant that I wanted to make sure I really enjoyed my day by incorporating some much needed Me Time!  Sometimes, I feel like parents are often too busy to really enjoy their birthday – we all deserve a day where we are the focus.  As I get older I find that harder and harder to do but this year that guilt was not going to show its big ugly face.

We headed up to Estes Park Colorado, the moment we drive into any of the Rocky Mountains I feel relaxation come over me.  I have always felt that I breath better in the mountain air and I certainly take way better naps and sleep better too.  All very important when trying to refresh and relax.  Ha!  I honestly, cannot think of a better place to spend my birthday weekend.
The area we stayed was so family friendly!  We all had such a great time doing crafts, playing in the snow, roller skating and even swimming.  It was a weekend full of great memories.  I really enjoy introducing Jude and Teagan to the beautiful Colorado mountains that we are so blessed to enjoy seeing every day.  I love hearing them say how pretty and big the mountains are.  So refreshing to get away from the normal life at home and work.

When I packed for our trip I visited our local Safeway to pick up some snacks and food for us on our getaway.  As I was standing in the check out line I decided that I was going to enjoy my Me Time while breathing in that relaxing mountain air by enjoying some of my favorite magazines.  I picked up PEOPLE® and Sunset® and knew this would be a great way to enjoy nap time on my birthday!  I bundled up and found a nice seat on the cabin deck and enjoyed my magazines in peace.  A whole new peace – mountain air peace!
While our weekend went so fast, I found that Me Time I truly needed on my special day.  Funny how a simple magazine can let you escape, plan, dream and sit in peace.  This is something I need to do more often for myself.  I am lucky that my birthday falls so close to the New Year because I am able to totally refocus my goals and dreams for the New Year but also for my birthday.  Refocusing and relaxing in the New Year is really important after so much hustle and bustle of the end of the year and holidays.
Find your space and enjoy your Me Time and head to your local Safeway now. Take advantage of $1.00 off participating titles (PEOPLE®, InStyle®, People StyleWatch®, Real Simple®, and Sunset®) with this digital offer until 2/15/16 while supplies last.

How do you make time for your Me Time?

I definitely think of magazine reading as 100% me time. I love things like Pinterest and reading blogs, but they have an underlying pressure of being 'blog work'. Magazines pretty much have no 'purpose' in my day, so taking the time to read one is a treat.

I agree with getting some good magazines and drinking a hot cup of tea and sitting in my room with the curtain open and taking me time and relaxing. I would love to take a trip where you are at and breathe in the mountain air. Looks fabulous that you were able to relax on your birthday!

Great way to do a family vacation! I love the view I'm kind of jealous of it. Breathe in that mountain near for me would you?

I love to read magazines, too, for "me" time. But I sure would love to do it in Colorado mountains – just thinking of the clean air sounds so wonderful!!

I sneak upstairs and play a came on my iPad if I don't have any reading material. Silly but a great distraction sometimes.

I've been to Fort Collins in Colorado many times, and have always passed the signs for Estes Park. Looks like a peaceful place, we'll have to stop there next time we visit!
