I realize that 2016 is still brand new and there may end up being more books to add to this list but please add these to your must read books with your younger kiddos.  Both of our kids love looking at books on their own and us reading to them.  I love that!!  And I want it to continue so we make it a point to find books that keep the kids interested and excited to pick up a book.  Also, I am excited to say that Jude, who is 5, is reading on his own now.  So exciting!!!!

Must Read Children’s Books for 2016

Must Read Children's Books for 2016, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast, What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night: a very messy adventure, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, Never Say No to a Princess , What Pet Should I Get?, The Day the Crayons Quit, How To Babysit a Grandpa, How To Babysit a Grandma, books for kids, great picture books for kids, books for young children, books for toddlers
Here are our favorites, most of these are pretty new books and a lot of them were Christmas gifts for the kids.  All of them have been read multiple times and loved by both of them.  Check these out soon!!
Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast

Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast
by Josh Funk.

We originally read this book when we found it while shopping for a book exchange for Jude’s classroom.  We read it in the bookstore together and loved it.  Jude was so excited to give to one of his classmates.  He told me he wanted this book too so we added this to his Christmas list.

This is a fun book for all ages.  It takes you through an adventure in the refrigerator while Lady and Sir race to get to the last drop of maple syrup!  The rhyming and creativity in this book is amazing!  A must read for sure!

We all wonder what our toys do while we are away right?  These creative authors decided to create amazing photographs of their kid’s toys.  The details in the pictures are so amazing.  The kids will literally look at one page of this book for 10 minutes.  The silly dinos will make you laugh too!  A fun picture book that will have the whole family wondering if they will catch their toys in the act!

Want a book that inspires your kiddos to dream big and be who they want to be?  This is it.  The illustrations are beautiful and captivating for all readers. This book will make your heart flutter and smile as you read.  The story is simple and sweet and super easy to read and allows kids to think about what they want to be when they grow up.

Never Say No to a Princess by Tracey Corderoy

Never Say No to a Princess by Tracey Corderoy
If you have been following us long you know that we have a princess in our family.  When I was looking for books for her I wanted to find something she would love.  I stumbled on this and knew we had to get it.  This little princess wants everything and if she doesn’t get it she CRIES!!  A great lesson is learned by this princess when those tears create a giant river.  The sparkly illustrations have our princess looking at this book a lot.  The story line is a great way to open up the discussion about being thankful for what we have.

What Pet Should I Get? By Dr. Seuss

What Pet Should I Get?  By Dr. Seuss

Jeremy is a huge Dr. Seuss fan so when we read that there would be a new book released we knew we had to buy it.  Just like all Dr. Seuss books the funny words, rhymes and characters make this a perfect children’s book.  A brother and a sister get to go to the pet store to pick out ONE pet – you wouldn’t think it would be that hard but of course, it is!   If you are a Seuss fan, add this one to your collection!

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I first opened and read this book with the kids but in the end I loved it.  Sure it is a kids book but thinking about how your kids color it totally made me laugh through out the story.  Each color writes a letter to a child who just wants to color!  So creative and funny!  The illustrations are great too!
How To Babysit a Grandpa
How To Babysit a Grandpa and How To Babysit a Grandma

We bought these books for my parents for Christmas.  After reading them in the store I knew they would be the perfect books for the kids to give as gifts to Grandma and Grandpa.  Both of these books are a great way to really celebrate the relationships between grandkids and grandparents.  What a special bond.  These stories are so creative and the illustrations are beautiful.  A perfect book for all ages… especially those grandparents in your life.

How To Babysit a Grandma
We are always looking for new books to enjoy with our kids.

What are some of your kid’s favorite books right now?

We love The Day the Crayons Quit! I need to check out those grandparents books for sure. Other current favorites are Mustache Baby, How Big is a Million, The Secret of Winter, The Day the Crayons Came Home (although they say the word "stupid" in that book, so I change it to "silly"), Dragons love Tacos….I could probably go on and on…Lincoln's big into reading right now!

I don't think I ever read what pet should I get. I might have to look next time I take the kids to the library.
