Summer is here – okay, well officially here as of Memorial Day weekend right? As our kids get older we are finding more and more activities that we are excited to try here in Colorado. Most of the time, Colorado is known for its mountains but you might be surprised to find out that there are a number of lakes and reservoirs that our a must visit as well. Not only for the beauty of the water in our amazing state but also for some boating!! I am always honest with you here, and here is a secret of mine – I have never been boating! But like I said, we are looking forward to some new experiences with our kids as they get older and boating is one of them.
While researching all of these lakes I decided to list some of the best boating lakes in Colorado. I have goals of taking the family out on these lakes to enjoy a day on the water and take in the amazing Colorado scenery.
Best Boating Lakes In Colorado:
- Chatfield Lake
- Grand Lake
- Lake Dillon
- Blue Mesa Reservoir
- Granby Lake
- Boyd Lake
- Cherry Creek Reservoir
These lakes are not only great for boating but perfect for family outings. If you are in Colorado, you must add these sights to your list this summer. Mountain views, fresh air and beautiful water.
Because the kids will not be in awe like us of the views we have to think of activities to do while on the lakes. Here are a few that I know we will be adding to our agenda!
Water Activities To Enjoy While Boating
- Swimming
- Tubing
- Fishing
- Water Skiing
- Wake-boarding
- Exploring
I want to go to Colorado so bad. Everyone know I life there as all these beautiful photos of their area and I am always so jealous of the beauty!
I am not big into boats but I know a few people who would like this. I prefer to watch and stay off the water. =P Plus, I am the photographer os all events for my family. haha
I have never been to the lake/river as I've always gone to the beach! However, I do plan on going this summer, so I am very excited. I was in Colorado earlier this year and its beauty was unreal. I can only imagine that view from a boat. 🙂
Thanks for this list. The hubs and I love Colorado (in fact, after his youngest goes off to college, we plan to spend a lot more time there – his dad's ashes are spread in Rifle). I'll be in Vail for work next month (I am in the area a few times a year) and hoping the hubs can join on the trip. I will definitely see if any of these are in close proximity so he and I can steal some time away. The Go Pro Mountain Games (why I am going) sure takes advantage of the water in the area, so hopefully we can find a peaceful place to relax a little.
I love your list of water activities. I really want to try water skiing but I have this fear that I will some how loose my balance and get dragged in the water. Its a fear, but I may have to face it because it looks like so much fun.
This is somewhere that I would love to be near! It sounds so much fun too! Definitely a trip that I am going to have to plan soon!
Great round-up post! I haven't done any boating activities yet (but soon, in Croatia next week!) so for sure, I'll be keeping this list in mind when I go over Colorado 😀
