Sweet sleep. We all need it, we all love it and we all function way better if we get a good night’s rest. If you are like me, that sweet restful sleep does not come easily for a few reasons. My sleep blockers include: my ongoing to do list running in my head, my mouth breathing husband and my occasional insomnia spells. I am one of those people that desperately needs 8 hours of sleep every night, but that doesn’t happen often, so to ensure the best sleep possible, I have introduced a few routines and items to our bedroom.
Over the years I have found some great DIY mists and sprays to use in our daily life using essential oils, so as I was pondering ways to make our bedroom more sleep friendly, it dawned on me, time to get creative with some essential oils!
This easy to make and very helpful Sleepy Time Pillow Mist is now a permanent item on my bedside table. This calming sleep inducing mist is the perfect way to calm my senses and drift to sleep.
Make your own Sleepy Time Pillow Mist
Materials Needed:
Small (2 oz) spray bottle or glass misting bottle
Lavender essential oil
Chamomile essential oil
Cheap Vodka or Witch Hazel
Water
Directions:
1. Add 1 ounce of vodka or witch hazel to the bottle.
2. Add 20 drops of Lavender essential oil to the mixture.
3. Add 10 drops of Chamomile essential oil to the mixture.
4. Fill the remainder of the bottle with water.
5. Secure the lid of the spray bottle tightly and shake well to combine.
To use these spray simply spray on the linens in your bedroom and directly on your pillow cases.
Enjoy, breath deep and slowly relax and drift to sleep.
This easy DIY project can be a great gift option for the upcoming holiday season, as well. What a great way to help your family and friends get the best possible sleep with this calming sleepy time pillow mist.
As I researched this combination, I thought it was interesting why you should add vodka or witch hazel. You can also just use water if that is all you have on hand, but you must be careful with the amount your spray on your bed linens, as the water will of course make the pillows and linens wet. Using witch hazel or vodka means that the pillow will stay dry. Fantastic option! Also, I have found that the oils often do not completely mix with water; the oils do sit on top of the water if not mixed – perfect science experiment.
This Sleepy Time Pillow Mist has really helped with getting my running to do list to calm down in my head at bedtime and does seem to combat that crazy insomnia that comes on, but that whole mouth breathing soundly sleeping husband thing: SO FRUSTRATING! How in the world can someone fall asleep so quickly and so soundly – it really isn’t fair. Now, I would love to say that I never think of smothering my amazing husband with my freshly misted pillow, but that simply isn’t true; married life, it is simply “dreamy.”
