This is the year of the parents.  I mean, sure, the kids will always come before us but the fact is, us parents, we need some attention.  A few weeks ago I talked about how one of my new years goals was to take better care of myself by making those yearly appointments for MYSELF as well as for the kids.  That goal has been difficult but I must say I am proud of my husband and I for making and attending a few of those appointments in just the first 2 months of the year!  Woohoo!!

As we continue the goal meeting streak I have found myself also focusing on another aspect of the healthier parent goal.  Breakfast – yes the most important meal of the day. Why?  How many of you focus all your morning energy on making sure your kids are fed properly before heading off to school but often just pick up a coffee for yourself after drop off?  :::Raises hand::

Smart Start To The Day
Look, in all honesty, we totally deserve more than a lukewarm cup of coffee for breakfast.  We are busy people, think about it – parents where does your energy go?  THOSE KIDS!!  Time to think about us in the morning too.  If you do not have time to sit down with the kids for breakfast make sure you add some smart, healthy, fast and delicious breakfast items to your bag as you run out the door to work.
One item that I have been adding to our weekly grocery list are some VitaTops MuffinTops that are totally in style!  Yup its true!  VitaTops MuffinTops are the perfect on the go smart breakfast or snack.  I have really enjoyed having them at my desk at work every morning with my coffee and a side a fruit.

I found my Deep Chocolate and Protein Banana Chocolate Chip VitaTops MuffinTops in Kroger‘s frozen food section! You can find yours at your nearest Publix, Kroger, Stop & Shop, Shop-Rite, or Target locations.

What are these VitaTops MuffinTops?
VitaTops are individually wrapped and come in the following flavors; Deep Chocolate, Protein Banana Chocolate Chip, Wild Blueberry and Superfood Cranbran. VitaTops use only clean and simple organic ingredients, and offer a wide range of nutritional benefits.  All of the VitaTops are less than 150 calories in each top but are filled with whole grain, fiber, fruits, flax and protein – so good and super smart for your morning meal.
Bottom line – they are delicious!  And…bonus – the kids love them too!

My favorite flavor is the Deep Chocolate VitaTops MuffinTops.  This seems like a super indulgent way to start my morning but with this protein and fiber packed top I am full and ready for a great morning.  I love how portable these muffin tops are, I simply take one out of the freezer and put it in my work bag and by the time I am at work, the top is defrosted and ready to enjoy with my fruit and coffee.  YUM!!  Talk about an easy but smart way to start my day.
While making time for yourself as a busy parent can be difficult it is so needed even if it means enjoying a few minutes at my desk eating my VitaTops MuffinTops.  Finding health as a parent is just working towards more years and memories with your children, something we all want more of.
The excuses must leave your parent brain – pick up a few boxes of these VitaTops MuffinTops to begin your journey to a healthier happier mom or dad for your kids.  Parenting is hard enough – start your mornings smart!

I've never even heard of this brand but I love the idea of having a muffin top for breakfast – seems a lot healthier than eating cookies! I make bean-based protein cookies and eat those for breakfast sometimes so I can get more protein in my diet!

First off congratulations for making the decision to take care of yourself and your hubby first. If you don't take care of you who will? Plus it makes you better parents and sets a good example for your beautiful children. Now on to the muffin tops! in a word YES in another YUM! That's the BEST part of the muffin! I have to try these

We really need to settle down to breakfast more often. I've always wanted to try the chocolate-flavored Vitatops MuffinTops, but haven't gotten around to it. I didn't know that they had a protein-packed flavor before.

I don't think I've ever seen this brand either. Looks good.I agree parents need to take care of themselves too. This will be your year.

Breakfast is a really important part of the day. Lots of people tend to skip it, thinking that it will help their diet but such is not true. Anyhot, it's great that you're putting importance to it!

I wish more parents would focus on their own well-being. It would really benefit their children as well. You'll be a better parent when you're healthy and well grounded.

I am the WORST about skipping breakfast, and a few other meals sometimes, ha! It feels like eating takes up so much time that I would rather skip that, then have to deal with being late, not meeting deadlines, etc. However, that's truly not healthy. I have been working on a little me time in this new year as well. I'm glad you are working through it too! I love those muffin tops! They're my snack/breakfast from time to time!

I would like to try the Protein Banana Chocolate Chip. I think that the tops of muffins are the best part anyways.
