This post is sponsored by Hill’s® Science Diet® and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about the new Hill’s® Science Diet® Youthful Vitality pet food for cats and dogs over the age of 7, but Building Our Story only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. is not responsible for the content of this article.

Getting old isn’t fun for anyone and it just sneaks up on you, even when you are a cat!
We are a two cat family, one of our cats is a young lively thing named Sundae and the other cat is our old spunky lady named Sophie. Sophie is 12 years old and still shows us her sass and class every day. We know she is getting older which means she needs a little extra care in her older age.
Taking care of our furbabies has always been one of our priorities; they are each a member of our family. Sophie does surprise us as most days she does not act like a senior cat. Like I said, she is full of sass and spunk but that doesn’t mean we should dismiss the extra care her little body needs.

Since adopting our first cat, Pun-kin, we have always been a Hill’s® Science Diet® using cat family. Recently, we were given the opportunity to try the NEW Hill’s® Science Diet® Youthful Vitality for Sophie. I was really excited to have Sophie give this a try because I want to make sure that as she continues to grow older she is getting the nutrition needed for her age.

Confession from this furmom – we were feeding Sophie and Sundae the same exact food. Sophie is ten years older than Sundae, that is a huge difference. From what I have learned from Hill’s® is that Sophie should have been on this aging pet food option for the last 5 years! I am not alone however, nearly half of pet parents don’t feed their 7+ pets food appropriate for an aging pet.
About Hill’s® Science Diet® Youthful Vitality:

  • Complete nutrition for cats aged 7+
  • Supports brain function
  • Supports kidneys & bladder
  • Supports a healthy digestive system
  • Promotes luxurious fur
  • Promotes energy and vitality
  • Cat friendly Chicken and Rice dry recipe
  • Tasty canned options in Chicken, Tuna and Salmon
We slowly switched Miss Sophie over to this food and after 8 weeks we noticed some great changes in our old lady. Now, to be honest, we had not see the age related changes that this specific food supports but now that we are two months into the food change I believe were missing those signs.

Signs of Aging in Cats:
Thinking: You cat might be confused by ordinary things like finding her bed or food.
Activity: Less playful and more naps on her daily schedule.
Interactions: Your pet doesn’t socialize with you as much.
Loss of Control: Those dreaded litter box accidents are becoming more normal.
Sleep-Awake Cycle: Confused on when to be sleeping; awake more through out the night.
Hill’s® Science Diet® has a great acronym to help pet parents realize that they might be missing some of the Tell Tails of Aging. After reading more about this cat food, I was able to identify a few areas that I have seen some changes in Sophie. Specifically her interactions, activity level and the sleep-awake cycle.
Since the switch, we have had a lot more cuddle time with Sophie and I find that she is much more patient with our kids; which is great because our kids adore both of our cats. I believe that Sophie likes the flavor of the Hill’s® Science Diet® Youthful Vitality because for every meal she comes running to her dish! I love seeing that silly kitty running down the stairs to her food.
Not only is her socializing improving but I have heard her running around the house after Sundae which is great! And one change that I wasn’t expecting was her fur. She has always had very soft fur and I guess I didn’t realize that with age it had changed a bit. After a few weeks on the Youthful Vitality food her fur felt so unbelievably soft.
Overall, this food seems to be a great fit for our spunky old lady Sophie and just like always, we are loving the Hill’s® Science Diet® it truly is a brand we fully trust to give to our special furbabies.

First, Sophie is ADORABLE! I've heard Science Diet is good. I may have to look into it for my little furbaby. She's 11 years old and definitely getting up there in age. But, for the most part, she's all about the wet food anymore. Thanks for sharing!

Sophie is too cute! I used to have a cat until she passed away and now I have 3 dogs. I have a sweet old man so I will have to look into Youthful Vitality if they make it in dog food. He is more laid back now so I worry about him.

I used to work for Hill's and I can say with confidence that they take the quality of the pet foods seriously. They want to help the pets with health problems through their food. I am glad that Sophie liked the food and is showing great results from it!

Aww your fur baby is so pretty! I used to have a tortoise kitty, but she died a few years ago. It was my childhood cat and I loved her so much. I really would love to have another one!

Your fur baby is adorable! I've never heard of this brand before but I am going to look into Hill's since our Sparkles have reached that elder age.

It does just kind of sneak up on you! We have a dog that is about 9 years old and you would never know it. I still see her as a puppy and am shocked whenever I think about her age. It is so important to give them proper nutrition to help keep the healthy and happy!

We are actually looking for a new product to give my dog. He just decided one day that he no longer liked the food we were giving him!

I am going to be honest with you, I've never put much thought at all into what kind of food I have purchased for my pets. If they had food, then that is all that mattered. Good to know that I need to put a little more thought into it!

Such a beautiful cat! My cat doesn't care what brand she eats, but it can't be generic. I'll have to see if she likes Hills Science Diet.

My chihuahua is getting older. I often forget just how old she is and hubby has to remind me. I do need to switch up her diet and get her health checked out.

I had never thought or known so much about any animal. I never had any pets so I'm completely alien to all this. Love your cats' names! 🙂
