The sun is out and the pool is open! In Colorado we only have a few months of “Pool Time” weather so when that season shows its HOT HOT face we head to the pool. Most of the time my pool days consist of water balloons, squirt guns and getting splashed in the eyes over and over again. Hey #MomLife, I know you know the struggle…it’s real. Every once in a while we all deserve a perfect pool day and thankfully I have a BFF to help me find that perfection.
Tips For The Perfect Pool Day
Before heading to my best friend’s place for our perfect pool day I made a stop at Walmart and picked up some essentials for the day. I love that Walmart has literally everything to make our day at the pool perfect! Now to share my tips to achieve The Perfect Pool Day!
Snacks – Look, when we head to the pool we do not want to have to go back home to get lunch or snacks so it is important to bring great pool day snacks. My best friend made us a nice light cucumber, tomato and mozzarella salad. It was a great cool salad for the 95 degree weather! Ugh! Too hot for me!
Sunglasses and Floppy Hat – Again, Walmart for the win. I have very sensitive skin and eyes which means a day the pool is a day that I must have my head and eyes covered. As I was packing up my bag I totally forgot to throw in my hat and sunglasses. Thankfully I found a really cute pair during my shopping trip and added a new floppy hat to my collection as well! Two items you can never have enough of…sunglasses and floppy hats!
Reading Materials – Sure there is plenty of time for girl talk but my best friend and I love to take time to read the gossip and styles of the week too. I picked up a few magazines for our time at the pool. It is fun to get away from real life and jump into the Hollywood gossip and fun for just a bit!
Invite your BFF – Obviously. While we live in the same state now, we do not get to see each other all that much because LIFE! So this was a special girls pool day only. We planned this together and thankfully the weather listened to our plans and we ended up with a 95 degree pool day! Woohoo! We gathered our pool day items and found our spots at the pool. It was so great to spend a few hours just chatting it up.
Leave the kids at home – Yes, this Perfect Pool Day tip is a must. Like I said, most of my pool days consist of pool toys and telling the kids not to pee in the pool. Look, I deserve this time with my BFF. I deserve a few quiet, relaxing hours at the pool.
Beverages – We decided on heading to the pool early. It worked out better with our schedules and lets’s be honest, we wanted to beat the crowds, especially other peoples kids! Yikes! Well, once I knew we would be at the pool early I decided we had to have a nice coffee drink to keep us energized and refreshed for our morning at the pool.

Have Fun – when I was checking out at Walmart with all of my pool day items I saw some pool floaties on an end cap. I was tempted to buy the giant donut float but resisted however, I could not resist the pineapple and watermelon cup holder floaties. They were the perfect accessory for our pool day. The Starbucks® Bottled Frappuccino drinks fit perfectly and it was fun to have them right there with us in the pool.
Relax – Enjoy this time. I was fun to really sunbathe for once. I wish I could tan but I don’t! It was just to not have to keep looking at my clock or worry about what my family was doing in the pool. A little Vitamin D and BFF time is so good for the soul.
Take a 15 minute nap! Okay, this phrase is an inside joke with Lauren and me. Years ago, after a late night, Lauren and I decided we just needed a 15 minute nap because we could not keep our eyes open. Well, that 15 minute nap turned into a few hour nap. But seriously, during this perfect pool day, if you need a 15 minute nap you need a 15 minute nap! Sunshine and water will do that to you!

I don't personally own a pool, but I do know people who do and I might be invited to swim in theirs. Food/snacks are important. My skin is very pale and I have sensitive eyes as well, so I have to be very careful how much I'm exposed to the sun. Agreed-95 degrees is too hot! Thank you for sharing these tips!
I definitely need a floppy hat this summer. This is something I hardly purchase during the warmer seasons but I love the look of them. It's best to have it in the pool for extra protection!
OMG I love those drink holders. And I also take my coffee to the pool. It is refreshing and delicious. I need to get some pool accesories such as your hat and off course now I want to read all the gossip magazines. You got me summer ready.
We opt for the creek instead of the pool. These tips will work perfectly for either destination. I miss the days when I could sit with my feet in the water and read. My little guy keeps me too busy (and wet) to do that much anymore at the creek.
95 degrees?! Ugh, wayyyyy too hot for me. It looks like a nice pool day. Just add a lot of high SPF sun lotion and count me in. haha. I do wish that Starbucks would come out with dairy free frapacchinos!
I love that your perfect day was with your BFF. My pool days all seem to revolve around the kids too. We don't have a pool either so we usually head to the waterpark which is total chaos. I think I need to plan myself a nice relaxing pool day just like yours.
That's so cool that you and your BFF are now living in the same state. It's always good to have close friends so nearby. As for the lack of being able to tan, I totally sympathize. There are certain areas of my body that refuse to tan at all costs. Ah whatever. lol Glad you had a great pool day.
Awww .. your photos of you and your bestie made me smile! The pool is truly one of life's greatest pleasures. Every day around the lunch hour I go water-walking with the old(er) ladies. While we're doing laps in the lazy river they tell me the funniest stories and I always leave with the biggest smile and a heart that's a little lighter. (ps: you reminded me that I need a big floppy hat!)
