Disclosure: I partnered with Oriental Trading for this post. All opinions are my own.
A few months ago we announced that Teagan asked for a Rainbow Unicorn Birthday Party this year. Once she decided on that theme I started working on this fun party. Currently, her favorite color is Rainbow and she adores all things Unicorns, has for a few years now. I was really excited to bring a ton of color and magic to this party.
We had her party over the weekend and it was so much fun! Everything went as planned and the kids had fantastic time. Check out some of our Rainbow Unicorn Party Ideas!
Throwing A Rainbow Unicorn Birthday Party
Our cake table has always been a centerpiece for our birthday parties. My good friend creates our cakes and she does an amazing job so I always want to make sure we showcase those cakes. This year my idea involved a rainbow back drop using plastic tablecloths. I purchased a red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple tablecloth from Oriental Trading Company to make this fun burst of color behind the cake.
To create this, I opened each tablecloth and and put them in rainbow order, I took a ribbon and tied them together at the top of the tablecloths and simply secured the bunch up wall behind the cake. Once I pushed the cake table up against the wall I was able to spread the tablecloth out to show all of the colors.
In addition to the great burst of colors behind the cake, I added a Rainbow Unicorn tablecloth to the cake table. I used all of these great Rainbow Unicorn products from Oriental Trading Company and everyone loved the unicorns and the rainbows through out the room!
Alright, let’s talk food! So I knew I wanted to add rainbows where ever I could for the food so I decided to create a rainbow veggie tray and also a rainbow skewer fruit plate. Now, let me be clear, these took a lot of time in the morning to prepare but they were so worth it!! They totally made our food table look amazing!!
In addition to these rainbow trays I included the Rainbow colored goldfish crackers that all of the kids LOVE. This addition to the food table was super easy! Love that!!
Our main dishes included pita pockets and meat, cheese and crackers. These did not include anything Rainbow or Unicorn so I decided to add a little color to the table by using all different colored plates and the Rainbow Unicorn Lunch Napkins.
And now for the good stuff! The sweet stuff!! Over the years I have prepared Chocolate Covered Popcorn for our birthday parties due to the parents asking for the recipe and for asking for seconds! HA! This year I went easy, I added white chocolate to the popcorn and sprinkled with Rainbow sprinkles. Easy but delicious and goes with the theme! We also found some Starbust candies to add to the table for even more color.
Now, my husband wanted to name the Cotton Candy something crude and I knew the parents would not be happy! HA! But just so we are all clear, this was supposed to be “Unicorn Farts”! But with 5 year olds I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle the crazy! Sooo….this is rainbow cotton candy. But you get the idea!
And for the cake…isn’t it perfect??? My cake lady did amazing. SO cute!! Teagan loved her cake and was excited to share it with her friends.
For Teagan’s guest gifts we went for the Unicorn Horn idea. I found these great Rainbow Hard Candy Sticks and created a printable gift tag thanking her guests for coming to her party, we simply tied two sticks together and set them out by the door for when people left the party.
Time for the party fun!! Teagan has been asking to have a Pinata at her party, we were not too excited to have a bat swinging around with the kids so we decided to try to find a pull string Rainbow pinata, we had no luck. So, we created our own pull string pinata! I will be sharing our tutorial soon. It worked well and it was a HIT, with out the scary bat!
I found some great Unicorn Sun Catchers for the kids from Oriental Trading Company that worked perfectly for the wide range of ages we had at the party.
I was surprised at the price of sun catcher paint so I decided to get a bit crafty and make our own sun catcher paint. Just like the Pinata Tutorial I will be sharing a DIY Sun Catcher paint tutorial with you in the coming weeks. It worked so well and we saved a ton of money!
In addition to the Sun Catchers we created fun Unicorn masks with the kids. Again, this was a great activity for the wide range of ages at the party. Because we host Teagan’s party inside we have to make sure we have enough activities to keep the kiddos having fun and entertained.
Teagan loved this and we were able to get a fun picture of all of our Unicorns at the party.
Our last activity was a Pin the Horn on a Unicorn game. Oh my gosh, this was so much fun! I love seeing where the kids end up placing the horn. Jeremy made this so cute too, Fluffy Unicorn is Teagan’s favorite!
It was a busy party but the kids really had a great time. I cannot wait to share more of our tutorials with you in a few weeks for when you might have a party need for sun catcher paint or a pull string pinata.
It is hard to believe that we celebrated a 5th birthday for Teagan last weekend. Unreal how fast time goes. I know she had a great time and here is to a great year of 5 ahead!!

Rainbows and unicorns are two of my favorite things. I think the rainbow-colored veggie plate looks incredibly appetizing. I think naming the cotton candy 'Unicorn Farts' was really cute. I like that name – made me laugh.
What a fun little party. I enjoyed collecting unicorns as a child, so this brings back fond memories. I also love being reminded of God's promise to us through a beautiful rainbow.
