On my birthday my husband took the day off and we enjoyed a day date!  It was great, we didn’t have to worry about childcare or getting home too late.  We enjoyed a nice birthday breakfast at Snooze (YUM!), leisurely walked around a few stores without the kids (glorious!) and then decided to take in a movie that wasn’t a cartoon (imagine that!).  It was a fantastic way to spend my birthday with Jeremy.

The movie we decided on was Lady Bird.  I had read about this movie and heard amazing things but honestly, I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed it.  Jeremy liked it too.  It was a movie about real life, life that isn’t perfect.  I love finding films like that.

Lady Bird – Fly Away Home.

Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against, but is exactly like, her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

The Director, Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha, 20th Century Women) reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter.  It is also important to note that this is her directorial debut.

I absolutely loved this movie.  As a girl mom, I know the relationship between a mom and daughter can be very hard at times.  After watching this movie I was so thankful for the great relationship I have with my mom.  Again, I loved that this movie showed the real struggle of most families.  Money, busy parents, unemployment and teenagers struggling to find their space in this big world.   Not to mention some teenage love struggles that we can all pretty much relate with.  I am not surprised that this film was nominated this year.  The story line was perfect.

    I will be watching with my husband! He isn’t too sure about this movie but I have been dying to see it so I will make him watch with me,lol. It looks amazing!
