Goals are so important to make, even goals that are about simple things like taking time out for yourself every day to read a few chapters in a book.  Guess what friends!  Today I am sharing my fourth book read of 2018.  For some, I know, four books is nothing but for me, this is a huge accomplishment and I am right on track for making my goal of 12 books in 2018!  I am excited to share a whole new series with you, the Sweeney Sisters Series.  Her Sister’s Shoes by Ashley Farley is the first of the series and I am really happy to share this perfect summer read with you today.

Her Sister’s Shoes by Ashley Farley

Set in the South Carolina Lowcountry and packed with Southern charm and memorable characters, Her Sister’s Shoes is the story of three sisters—Samantha, Jackie, and Faith—who struggle to balance the demands of career and family while remaining true to themselves.

Samantha Sweeney has always been the glue that holds her family together, their go-to girl for love and support. When an ATV accident leaves her teenage son in a wheelchair, she loses her carefully constructed self-control.

In the after-gloom of her dreaded fiftieth birthday and the discovery of her husband’s infidelity, Jackie realizes she must reconnect with her former self to find the happiness she needs to move forward.

Faith lacks the courage to stand up to her abusive husband. She turns to her sisters for help, placing all their lives at risk.

In the midst of their individual challenges, the Sweeney sisters must cope with their mother’s mental decline. Is Lovie in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, or is her odd behavior normal for a woman her age? No one, including Lovie, understands her obsession with a rusty key she wears around her neck.  Her Sister’s Shoes is a contemporary women’s novel that explores and proves the healing power of family.

My Review of Her Sister’s Shoes

When I added this book to our my birthday list I knew that I was hoping for a nice wholesome chic lit book and that is exactly what it provided.  I felt connected to these women in the book and am excited to read the next books in the Sweeney Sisters Series.  Now, I will say that like most chic lit books, the ending does come quickly and seems to get tied up nice and perfectly, not that believable but maybe that is why I am drawn to books like this.  Happy endings, happy family and love.  Her Sister’s Shoes is book that leaves you feeling like family really can be the prescription to all things happy.

While this book is a little longer than most chic lit books I found myself finishing it really quickly.  The sisters had a lot to deal with in their lives from abuse to a mid-life crisis to alcoholism to dementia. I feel like each of the women found their strength in different ways and sometimes it took help from everyone else in the family without completely falling apart.

I really felt for them having to deal with their mother, Lovie, as well.  We have seen the heartache and frustration that dementia brings in our family.  It is a daily struggle.  I am interested to read more of this series and see how that progresses along with the other relationships in the book.  I have already bought the second book of the Sweeney Sisters Series and I am excited to dig in!

I would recommend this book for a great summer escape.  I hope you check it out.

Her Sister’s Shoes sounds like a good read. Based on your review I feel the saga of 3 sisters must indeed be a nice story. Will be checking it out.

I need to check this one out. I have a list going of books to read this Summer. I have not heard of this one until now but it really sounds perfect for me. I have dealt with similar problems and dementia is the one that sticks out to me the most. It was a hard time and I look forward to healing through someone else’s story.

Is your book goal through GoodRead’s Reading Challenge? I find that a very satisfying way of making myself reading more frequently and publicly accountable for enriching, not filling my life.

This sounds like a great book. I am wanting to read more this summer. I do not think I have read a whole book since last summer. Blogging has really cut in on my reading time. I will check this out!

This sounds like a book I would enjoy reading over the summer. I like to have chick flick books on hand when we spend time at the beach and when we go camping. I love sit in the shade and read. It’s such a relaxing feeling.

Stories with strong women as antagonists, exploring relationships between sisters are my jam! Not being close to my sisters, I like to imagine myself in their shoes 😉

There are years I go without reading a single book. And, years where I can’t stop. Keep up the reading and I look forward to hearing about your next selection!

I do not think 4 books is anything to scoff at and 12 books in a year seem reasonable for the average reader/person. Yes I know some people can knock out a book in a day lol I need to read slower to truly absorb things and I tend to like to re-read at times too. I get very little time to read so when I do I want to enjoy it and not speed read the book. This book sounds good thanks for the heads up about it.

The subject of mental health and abuse is never easy to tackle, least of all in a book but im super impressed by the beautiful portrayal of relationships in the novel. It definitely sounds like a must read.

I’m just finishing up a book so this post is perfect timing. Her Sisters Shoes sounds like a great beach read and thankfully beach season is right around the corner here in Chicago. Thanks for the recommendation.

Being able to get lost in a book series is what life is about. With summer coming up this would be a perfect story to read while on the beach with your butt in the sand and feet in the water. It sounds like a great read and an even greater love novel. Thanks for sharing
