With spring here, we are gearing up for all of those fun spring and summertime festivals and fairs in our area. I have said it before and I am saying it again, we are so lucky to live in Colorado, not just because it is a beautiful state but because Colorado makes sure that her residents and visitors always have something fun to do! I am excited to share some of our favorite festivals in the Colorado area but also give you some tips for you and your family for when you start attending these fun festivals and fairs!
Tips For Attending Festivals With Kids
Think Safety.
Festivals mean a lot of people and a lot of excitement from your kids. This is a bad combination! Over the years I have seen a number of safety options for parents to add to their children’s clothing but I believe the easiest way to keep an emergency contact on your child is by writing the number on their wrist and coating the information with liquid bandaid in order to keep it from being washed away. In addition to keeping a phone number on your child you should make sure you children know your name as well. Before attending a festival or fair have a safety conversation with your child.
Allergy Prepared.
I don’t know what your household is like but we deal with seasonal allergies…all of us. Most of the festivals we go to involve fresh flowers or produce and are in an area away from our home which only means more allergens. Over the last few years we have noticed that Jude deals with these allergies more than all of us. We started using Children’s FLONASE SENSIMIST for Jude and we have really been pleased with this allergy relief for him.
Unlike Most Allergy Syrups, Children’s FLONASE SENSIMIST Relieves* Nasal Congestion Plus Runny Nose, Sneezing, Itchy Nose, Itchy Eyes**, and Watery Eyes**. And a bonus for our very sensitive and overthinking boy is that this gentle mist does not bother him at all and it helps block 6 allergic substances. It is a more complete allergy symptom relief*. You better believe that the Children’s FLONASE SENSIMIST is a must in our festival and fair packing! A simple item that allows him to have a great time exploring these local festivals!
Disinfect It All.
We use Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes*** on a daily basis. But over the years of traveling to these festivals I have added these Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes to my packing list as well. At home we use these to wipe away 99.9% of the most common allergens but also disinfect the areas we use most. Now, think about the last festival you attended. Did you feel the space around you was clean and free of allergens? NOT AT ALL! So, the Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes are so easy to throw into your backpack and take with you on your festival fun.
Go With The Flow.
Festivals are busy, you literally cannot get around that. Which means, your big plans for the festival might not work out. So, go with the flow! If the line for an activity is too long, find something else to enjoy. If your traditional festival treat is unavailable, go out on a limb and try something new. Enjoy the time to explore and be open to no schedule.
Stay Hydrated.
Because we are heading into the warm or even hot season depending on the day, it is really important to keep everyone in your family hydrated. Most of the festivals around here allow you to bring in water bottles, I highly suggest everyone in your party bring their own water bottle. Not only will everyone stay hydrated but it will save you a little money by not buying water bottles from the vendors.
Sun Protection.
If you are like our family we have very sensitive and fair skin. This means that sunscreen is always on our packing list…even in the snow! HA! We use a lot of sunscreen through out the year. We apply sunscreen at the car and depending on how long we are staying the festival we make sure to reapply as needed.
Snacks For Everyone.
I love going to festivals and fairs to experience those typical fair treats but also to try new foods. However, like discussed above sometimes with the crazy lines and crowds it is hard to get snacks, meals and treats before one person goes HANGRY and needs a snack! Pack a few items in your backpack that will not melt or go bad. A good example is a banana, granola bar or an apple. Super easy foods for anyone to eat when needed!
Have Fun!
Seriously, have fun! Enjoy the outing with your family. When attending a festival that is themed – example Peach Festival, we make sure to really get engaged in that theme. Trying the activities that are around that theme and of course enjoying the food around that theme. Winter is over! Time to get outside and enjoy the weather!
We have not attended all of these local festivals and fairs but all of these are on our must attend list this spring and summertime. I am excited to have them all on our calendar! Now that the kids are getting a bit older, these festivals and fairs are a lot of fun for everyone in the family!
