Mother's Day, what mom taught me, What I learned from my Ultra Strong Mom, Hefty Ultra Strong bags, Tips for mothers, tips for strong mothers

Growing up, you really never think about how much you learn from your parents day to day. I am not talking about the actual words that come out of their mouths, but instead the actions you see as a child.  Now that I am a mother, I find myself thinking about how what I grew up seeing and experiencing has shaped my actions as a mother. Many thanks to Hefty® for sponsoring today’s discussion on being an ultra strong mother.

This Mother’s Day marks my 7th Mother’s Day.  While I will never be an expert in motherhood, I am finding that as I reach this 7th year milestone I am a lot more comfortable and empowered with my title of Mom.  I have one person to thank for that, my Ultra Strong Mom. Some of you have been following along for years but those who are new here, I am adopted.  My story might start off different but the fact is, my mom is my mom and she, from the moment she held me in her arms, made it clear that she was an ultra strong mom and would be teaching her children how to be ultra strong as well.

What I Learned From My Ultra Strong Mom

My Mom Taught Me Hard Work Pays Off

My mom was a teacher in a public middle school for her whole career.  That job was not easy, but she loved it and showed me as I grew up that when you love something and you have passion for that, it needs to show in your career and daily life.  I will never say that a working mother has a harder life than a stay at home mother but I did see the hustle in my mom during her career. I thank her for that, because it has really come in handy with my recent career change!

My mom worked hard at work and even harder at home.  She was not the mother that came home and slaved over a stove but instead she was the mother that made sure the whole family pitched in and helped her take care of the home.  I especially love that my mom this the woman (still is) that heads outside in the heat of the summer to garden, mow and take care of the yard because she loves to see her handy work shine.

My Mom Taught Me How To Have Fun

My mom encouraged my brother and me to have fun when we were growing up.  She was an active mom in our lives and that is so important. I see how important that really is now that I am a mom.  Having fun with your kids, what a treat. We all know that kids watch what we are doing as mothers. Why not let them see you being silly at the park, dancing in the kitchen or just playing a board game.  Fun comes in all shapes but the important thing I learned from this is that even Ultra Strong moms can break out and enjoy life.

My Mom Taught Me About Waiting

I mentioned before that I am adopted.  My mom had to wait years for me. She is ultra strong for that.  What a blessing in disguise – blessing might be a hard word to read for a woman who went through such a struggle to become a mom but the truth is, I don’t think my mom would be the ultra strong woman she is today if it wasn’t for this blessing.

Waiting for something you want so badly can be painful.  After knowing her story and seeing her being a wonderful mother growing up and now as a grandmother I know that her years of waiting and hope shaped who she was as a mother.  I have taken this and become intentional about the “waiting game” in my life as well.

My Mom Taught Me To Be Me

Most importantly my mom taught me to be ME!  Growing up I never felt judged and I know that my behavior had her pulling out her hair sometimes but that did not stop her from showing me love.  Motherhood is the hardest but most rewarding job a woman can have, and that takes one strong woman. Side story: there is a rumor that my mother had to go on blood pressure medicine my Senior Year of high school because of all of the lovely “experiences” I was finding myself in.  HA!
