Teagan is almost 6 years old and the last few months she has been asking to help make our dinners. This is not really a surprise to us because she loves playing “kitchen” and “restaurant.” I decided it was time to bite the bullet and let her into my kitchen and teach her some basics and let her get some real cooking under her belt. To start this adventure, I decided to buy some matching aprons and find an easy but delicious meal she could help me make for the family. I decided to start super easy and decided to pick up a Tyson® Frozen Dinner Kit from Safeway.
Making Memories While Making Dinner with Tyson Frozen Dinner Kits
While this whole process had me super anxious – hot stove with a spitfire little lady – I knew that this special time spent with her in the kitchen would be very special. As parents, we have to find a great balance of teachable moments and control. I have a problem with giving control to my kids. I think of all of the mess, the time, and what else I could be doing, but frankly I need to stop. That control issue is hindering me from being the best mom I can be for my kids. So, kids helping with cooking dinner is one way I can start giving a little control to them all while creating teachable moments and memories.
After so many requests, we dove in, strapped on our aprons, picked out our favorite wooden spoon and told Jude and Jeremy that we were cooking dinner! This girl was super excited, not only to get to cook with me but to try this yummy Tyson Frozen Dinner Kit – Tomato Herb Chicken & Vegetable Pasta!
To give Teagan a little more kitchen time, we decided to prepare the Tyson Frozen Dinner Kit on the stove top rather than in the oven. This process was so easy and now that Teagan is able to read, she followed directions perfectly! We simply took the meal kit out of the freezer and set out all of the ingredients and got started. I loved that we did not have to thaw our meal before preparing. I know we will be stocking up on these Tyson Frozen Dinner Kits for those busy evenings.
Tyson Frozen Dinner Kits are made with pre-portioned chicken, raised with no antibiotics ever, and other delicious ingredients. These ingredients are prepped, pre-portioned, and ready for cooking right out of the bag. Again, another reason why these kits are the perfect meal to have your younger children help you with. In less than 45 minutes, we had dinner on the table and this meal was a hit with the whole family. Finding fast and easy weeknight meals just got a whole lot easier.
During our cooking time, we talked about staying safe in the kitchen and also about what meals we could cook next week together. Teagan told my parents all about the dinner she made for the family and she was so proud. By the time our Tyson Dinner Kit – Tomato Herb Chicken & Vegetable Pasta was done cooking, Teagan had a lot more confidence in herself. I am excited to make this a more weekly occurrence with Teagan and keep creating those memories!!
Look at this girl!! So proud of herself and I am so happy that I gave up control of the stove and let her cook dinner for us. I think we might have a little chef on our hands. Oh and guess what? She loved washing dishes after we were done just as much as cooking. She’s hired!

Oh my goodness this melted me! I didn’t realize that they made these kits, but I will be looking for it because my kiddos are looking to help out more and this could be great for my 9 year old to do for us one night! Thank you for sharing this ❤️
