Summer has been great but we are officially making our way into the Back to School season now. If you are like me you have already bought all of the school supplies, backpacks, lunchboxes and new school clothes; it is the planner in me. I have to be organized or we will be a mess come the first day of school. So, that being said, those lunchboxes are cleaned and ready but have you thought about what your lunchbox rotation will look like this school year?
Getting Our Lunches Back to School Ready
I always find myself so motivated for school lunches the first part of the school year, but then I lose my motivation and creativity and my kids end up with the same old lunches that they get bored with. MOM FAIL. Now, let me be clear, I will NEVER be a Bento Box mom, I will not cut my kid’s food into cute shapes and build frogs out of hard boiled eggs, it’s just never going to happen kids. BUT I will come up with the most delicious, creative lunches possible that do not involve stencils, cookie cutters and silicon holders.
This school year I have a goal, a goal that is attainable, the only kind of goal I know how to make. This school year I will not over do the thinking, I will not stress myself out about lunchboxes and I will provide my children with balanced lunches. EASY goal to meet right? Today I am excited to share how we are getting our lunches back to school ready with Tyson® and Hillshire Farm® products found at Walmart.
This school year is going to be a bit different for our family as Teagan will be venturing into full-day kindergarten and will either need a packed lunch every day or eat school lunches. While I do believe our school provides a great lunch program, I am a bit worried about her picking out her food at only 5 years old, so I love the idea of creating a yummy lunch for her to take with her to school. Oh and plus have you seen the adorable lunchbox she picked out?? Perfect for our little lady.
School Lunch Idea: Ham & Cheese Roll-Ups
One of my very favorite things to pack my kids for their school lunches are ham and cheese roll-ups. Not only do they provide them with a yummy lunch but they are so easy to make first thing in the morning. My kids are just like me, they have food texture issues, so the idea of soggy bread on sandwiches make all of us gag. For these easy roll-ups there is no worry of soggy bread.
Hillshire Farm® Lunchmeat is a must for our school lunches. We all love the Hillshire Farm Ultra Thin Honey Ham, it has great flavor, texture and is perfectly sliced for sandwiches or wraps. I trust Hillshire Farm Lunchmeat because it is fully-cooked and ready to eat with no artificial flavors added. Hillshire Farm Lunchmeat can be found in the lunchmeat section of your local Walmart. Go stock up and get ready for those lunches!
To make my roll-ups I take a piece of string cheese and cut it in half. Then I take one slice of Hillshire Farm Honey Ham Lunchmeat and fold it in half and place the piece of cheese at one end of the lunchmeat. Then I simply wrap the cheese up with the ham. So simple but something that the kids will love, and it is packed full of protein.
Another great lunchbox idea is Tyson Fun Nuggets. Yes, nuggets. If you are confused on how to make sure your children’s chicken nuggets stay hot and ready to eat for lunchtime you MUST read my post with tips and tricks on keeping lunches the right temperature. You will start thinking about hot OR cold lunch in a whole new way!
My kids are a little picky when it comes to chicken nuggets which is why I always pick up the Tyson Fun Nuggets. They are all-natural ingredients, minimally processed chicken raised with no antibiotics ever, have 8 grams of whole grain per serving and 10 grams of protein per serving but they are also dinosaur shaped! Finding a trusted brand like Tyson is so important when it comes to feeding my children every day.
