As the kids get older, we are striving to have less THINGS but more experiences and memories as a family.  While on paper this makes sense at times those special experiences can cost more money.  That is why we are focusing on saving money for memories by simply using Ibotta while shopping at Walmart.

Saving Money For Memories With Ibotta

Jude is almost 9 and it is pretty embarrassing what our playroom looks like after 9 years of parenting.  The amount of THINGS that both of my kids have is crazy.  As we venture into these years with our kids we have decided to start limiting the things we buy and start focusing more on experiences and memories.  While things cost money, it seems like some of the experiences and adventures add up even more.

We have decided to start being more intentional with our spending and saving every week and by doing this, we have been able to set up an experiences fund.  One way that I do this is by doing our weekly shopping at Walmart and scanning my receipt or scanning the QR code into Ibotta.  It is so simple and the savings end up right in our experiences fund!

Why I Love Ibotta

I love saving money on things I actually use and buy weekly, so a few years back when I was first introduced to the great money saving app called Ibotta, I was hooked.  Ibotta has been around for a while but over the years they have made some great improvements to making it even easier to use which makes me love it even more.

Ibotta is FREE and the easy way to shop!  Simply download the app, do your normal shopping, snap a picture of the receipt or QR code, and save!  Seriously, it is that easy.  When I sit down to do my weekly shopping list I know that I will find at least 5 or 6 items on Ibotta that are also on my shopping list.  I simply add those items to “My Offers” in Ibotta and go shopping at Walmart.

Once I make my shopping list, I head to my local Walmart and get to work!  There is no scanning of products in store and no extra time in the check out line.  Another way we are being intentional about saving some money for our upcoming experiences is to stick to the list!  I am not a budget shopper by any means but I do know how important it is to be mindful of what goes into your shopping cart.

I used to use the Walmart Savings Catcher, but as of May 14th, it will no longer be available. For those that are huge Walmart Savings Catcher lovers, I urge you to download the Ibotta app ASAP because I know you are going to love it just as much or if not more! Ibotta has everything you need to score big deals, EASILY!

Scan and Make Some Money!

Once I get home I simply dig out my receipt from the shopping trip and SCAN.  Ibotta makes it so easy.  Pull up the Free Ibotta app on your phone and follow the directions. Using the scan QR code option makes this process even easier than before, which is pretty amazing because it is already such an easy process.

Once the photo or scan of the receipt is complete, Ibotta does the work for you!  The app finds the verified offers on your receipt and notifies you how much money will be added to your Ibotta account.  Within 24 hours that money will be available to you to withdraw as long as you have over $20.00 on your account.

Now, you might be wondering what happens next.  Ibotta is helping us create an extra pool of money to use for our experiences and memories fund!  Obviously, you can use your Ibotta cash back however you like and in true Ibotta form, they are making it easy to do this and allowing you many different options!

100% of your Ibotta earnings can be transferred to PayPal or Venmo as soon as you’ve earned $20.  You can also earn cash back with top apps including iTunes, Groupon, eBay, and Amazon, plus you can even cash out to gift cards at dozens of retailers.  The options are endless!  For our Saving Money For Memories goal we simply transfer our earnings to a special PayPal account just for these experiences we are planning.

Our experience wish list for our family seems to grow daily and with this great app we are able to mark those experiences off of our wish list by simply using the Ibotta app when shopping at Walmart.  Transferring our Ibotta earnings to our PayPal account really helps us keep that money separate from other bills and budgets.  A great way to create a little savings account.

Make the switch to Ibotta as Walmart Savings Catcher will no longer be available as of May 14th!  Saving money has never been easier!

How much money have you saved by using Ibotta?
