It is that time of the year again!! Elf on the Shelf Time!! I have a love/hate relationship with our Elves but mostly I love seeing the magic in the kid’s eyes. Here are some easy Elf on the Shelf ideas that can help you keep that magic alive this holiday season.
Elf On The Shelf: Ideas To Keep The Magic Alive
Jude is 9 and Teagan is 7 and this year has been a big struggle for us all in terms of the holiday season – more on that at a different time. But, there was one thing that I knew would make the kids smile this holiday season and that was Peppermint and Cupcake. They are both at the age that the magic might be wearing off soon, so I want to enjoy this time of childhood and make sure the magic sticks around for a bit longer. Peppermint and Cupcake help with that magic every year.
Elf on the Shelf Orna-Pop Count Down
The fine folks at Elf on the Shelf sent us this fun countdown calendar. It was a great way to welcome Peppermint and Cupcake back into our home for the season and have the kids get extra excited to POP these fun ornaments. It has been a blast doing these every evening.

Snowballs For Breakfast
This is always a favorite in our house. What a special treat for breakfast and Peppermint and Cupcake get to sit at the table while they eat. I love adding a little note too. I have done the Christmas tree out of donuts and also snowmen. Either one is a hit. Who doesn’t love snowballs for breakfast?
Marshmallow Bubble Bath
Okay this one is my favorite. It always takes the kids a little longer to find the Elves on this day because they are in the bathroom rather than in the living room or kitchen. Such an easy but cute way to bring a smile to the kids faces when they find them. The mini rubber duckies really add to it too.
Stocking Hung With Care
I personally love our stockings because my mom made them. So when I am low on ideas I always love to add the Elves to each of the kid’s stockings. It is a cute idea that just brings a little more holiday cheer to the living room too. This is a perfect idea on one of those really cold days. Peppermint and Cupcake need to stay toasty in the stockings.
Stuck In The Cookie Jar
I have used our cookie jar a few times over the years for the Elves. This year I decided to pick up some adorable Santa cookies from Target and stick them in the jar with the Elves. It was a fun way to give the kids another little special treat and it did take them awhile to notice Peppermint and Cupcake hanging out in the cookie jar.
Just Hanging With My Friends
There are nights that I cannot think of a new idea so I look around and find a place that is out of sight so it takes the kids a little extra time to find the Elves in the morning. Hiding them along with other stuffed animals and Christmas decorations is a good way to do this.
Meeting New Friends
Every year, Elf on the Shelf comes out with new friends to add to your Elf on the Shelf collection. This year we met the Arctic Fox. She is so pretty. I put the stuffed friend and new DVD under the Christmas tree and had Peppermint and Cupcake sit in the tree.
You can find the new Arctic Fox here.
Just Find A Shelf
Seriously, the magic can be continued even if you just find a shelf to put your elves on. The biggest piece of the Elf on the Shelf tradition is making sure the Elves move. I put them in the water/ice dispenser of the refrigerator this year. This was a new shelf for the Elves and the kids commented on that. Mix it up a bit every year but do not make yourself crazy!!
