When we changed schools a few years ago we knew that this public magnet school that focused on the arts was the perfect option for Teagan but in all honesty, I was concerned if we made the right choice for Jude. While I have seen Jude grow and flourish in school academically I have also seen him find new hobbies and interests due to this amazing school. This includes guitar and drawing and now performing!!
The One Where: Jude Jumps Out Of His Comfort Zone
A few weeks ago I found out that Jude was going to be trying out for the All-School musical. Every year the school puts on an amazing show that all of the students are able to audition for. Yes, even in elementary school they do cuts…this is part of the learning experience at this school. For the 2020 show the school will be performing Newsies.
While I was super proud of Jude for wanting to give it a go this year, I was so nervous for him as he walked into his audition. Keep in mind that Jude needed to know a dance and a song for his audition. I was able to be there while he did this audition and he did great – especially the song. He struggled with the dance and go very upset with himself but he pulled it together and performed great.
A few day after the audition it was time to celebrate! JUDE GOT A PART…A NAMED PART!! In a few months we will see Jude on stage as Governor Teddy Roosevelt in Newsies! He will also be in the Newsies Ensemble.
Introducing Governor Teddy Roosevelt in Newsies
The next few months are going to be busy, due to Jude having a named part, he will be at school for musical rehearsal four days a week. Come May he will perform at three different Newsies performances on a high school stage! It is going to be an interesting experience but what I am most excited about is seeing his courage and determination. He knew he wanted to do this and he worked for it.
Proud Mom Moment
I guarantee that when Jude is up on the stage in a few months my heart will be exploding. While changing schools was difficult in the moment, it has proved to be one of the best decisions we made as parents. The opportunities for the kids grow, experience and try new things is pretty endless. And now, as a 3rd grader Jude will have his first on stage performance in a lead/named part of a really fun musical!
I cannot wait to share more about this experience as we move through the weeks of practicing and rehearsing. And come May I know it will be so exciting to share the hard work that Jude put into this experience.
Have any words of advice for Jude as he moves through this hard but exciting experience?
