Doing a remodel during this unprecedented time can be a challenge but there was one particular space in my home that I needed to work on this spring. With the help of my mom, we were able to do a pretty big remodel and update to my Master Bedroom on a budget in just one week! I am super excited to share this One Week Budget Remodel of my New Master Bedroom!
One Week Budget Remodel: New Master Bedroom
A Space For Some R&R – Rest and Relaxation
2020 brought a lot of changes and one area that I needed to change for myself was my bedroom. I needed to update this space so it could become a room that brought me relaxation, happiness and strength. Life doesn’t always go as planned but that doesn’t mean that I had to continue to go to sleep and rest in a space that brought me such anxiety and sadness. When I started this plan of remodeling the master bedroom, I knew I wanted it to be a space that was beautiful, light and inviting.
The Old Master Bedroom
The master bedroom had not been updated for over 14 years. The brown paint was what was on the walls when we bought the house. During that time, brown was IN! The carpet was gross, worn and full of stains. The furniture was the furniture that we had from the beginning of our marriage. It was decided that I would purchase new bedroom furniture, so when the furniture was removed from the room, I knew it would be a perfect time to remodel!
My mom and I took the long weekend I had during Spring Break without the kids and started right away! The plan was to tear out the nasty carpet, paint the walls a bright white and lovely purple and lay vinyl flooring. Seemed like too much to do but we did it!! And while I was exhausted, I know my mom was too, it was very validating to complete this remodel.
The Process
The first thing we did was paint the brown walls white, once that was done and dry, we started the fun and dusty work of ripping up the carpet! GROSS!!! After doing this work, I have a new goal of removing all of the carpet in the bedrooms, no wonder why we wake up feeling congested! So much dust and dirt!
Once the carpet was pulled up and all of the staples and nails were out of the flooring we moved onto the purple paint!! Oh I was in love!! This purple is perfect. When I picked out my purple I was going off of the purple that was on my bedspread that my parents bought me for my birthday. I knew I wanted a purple wall but I did not want it to make my space too dark like the brown did. With the three white walls, this purple added the right amount of color without making the room dark.
Once the paint was dry, we moved onto the biggest task on our list…laying the flooring. I was so nervous about this step but my mom really helped me find my confidence during this process. I went with a grey vinyl plank that was peel and stick. While there were a few areas of the room that proved to be challenging, for the most part we were able to breeze right through this task. And I love the look. So much cleaner and updated.
The New Master Bedroom
So bright, clean and updated!! As you see, even the cats approve of my updated Master Bedroom!! After the flooring set over night we were able to move my bed back into the space and begin the redecorating process…my favorite part!! I purchased a vintage white chest of drawers and night stand that went along with my other dresser I already had that my TV sits on. I also found a great white ladder bookshelf that helps me keep my books organized.
I am still searching for some wall hangings for the large white wall but did find a gorgeous whimsical dream catcher for over my bed, that looks amazing on the purple wall! I also found some great budget friendly lamps to add to the space to help brighten up my bedroom in the evenings. I am also adding a LIVE plant to my bedroom wish list but need to decide what kind of plant I am able to take care of and not kill…no green thumb here!
For my window covering I went with a super light curtain and I already had the white blinds. Thankfully my room is on the second floor and the window is blocked by the large tree outside my window so I can be pretty light when it comes to the window coverings. Notice the purple bedspread that started the whole remodel thought!!
Let’s Talk About Money!
Okay, as you can see, I did drop some money into this remodel but for the most part, this one week Master Bedroom update was very budget friendly.
Paint and Paint Supplies = $110.00
Flooring and Supplies = $150.00
New Furniture = $500 (large chest of drawers/night stand with delivery)
Bedspread and Bedding = $100.00
Bookshelf = $40.00
Decor = $120.00
Total = $1,020.00
The biggest cost for me was the chest of drawers and night stand and while I still have some decor I would like to add to my walls, for just over $1,000 for a brand new room, I am pleased! And my mom and I were able to complete this remodel in ONE WEEK!!! Girl Power!!
Since this remodel was so successful, I am looking at my next project with excitement. I am not sure if my mom is though! HA!! Hopefully before the end of the summer I will have another fun home update to share with you all!
