First Day Of School – 2020/2021

It looks different around here but school is back in session.  I officially have a 2nd grader and a 4th grader!!  How is that possible?  Yesterday was the first day of school for both Jude and Teagan and overall, I think it went okay for us all.

Happy First Day of School!

Our school district decided to do the first month of school in a remote learning model.  We will know more about the rest of the semester in just a few weeks.  So, for this first day of school. the kids started their school year off in our basement.  Thankfully the remote learning model the school is using this time around is way more structured than what we had in the spring of last school year.

This means the kids will be learning with all of their classmates via the computer during school hours – 8am-3pm!  Long day at the computer but I do like that they are both getting to interact with their friends and teachers live.  Our day did start a little bumpy because of technology but overall, I think it was a good day.

Jude – 4th Grade!

Jude is 10 years old and in the 4th grade this year.  He is attending the same school that he has for the last 2 years and is super excited for this school year.  He is in class with a number of his best buddies and got the teacher he was hoping he would get!  This guy loves to learn so he is a bit upset at the remote learning decision but I think he will do great.

He loves to read, learn, go to the museum, Pokemon everything and basketball.  His answer when I asked him what he wants to be when he grows up – A Robotics or Medical Scientist.

Jude’s Remote Learning Space

For the remote learning space I cleaned our basement and moved in some tables for each of the kids to have their own space.  This is Jude’s little desk and learning corner.  Again, not ideal but we are making it work and like the idea of having a dedicated working space rather than the kitchen table.

Teagan – 2nd Grade

Teagan is 7 years old (almost 8 years old) and is in the 2nd grade this year.  This girl is a spitfire and ready to take on the world.  She too was bummed about remote learning but mostly because she wanted to play at recess with her friends.  Lucky for her most of her best friends are in her class again this year and she will be able to chat with them through out this month of remote learning.

Teagan has a love of creating doll clothes and accessories, playing with friends, and going to the playground.  She is so smart and really enjoys learning new things.  When I asked her what she wants to be when she grows up her answer was a vet!  I can totally see this happening, Teagan is caring and loves animals.

Teagan’s Remote Learning Space

Welcome to Teagan’s desk!!  She loves this because she is like me and loves all of the office supplies and organizing stuff.  I think she will have the most difficult time just sitting at the computer but we are going to make the best of it.  She has mastered the standing desk already…really it is just her standing instead of sitting.

Now, wish me luck as we continue this remote learning journey!  And like our principle reminded us…Give Yourself Grace!  This is a good reminder for everyone – teachers, students and parents!

What does Back To School look like for your kids this school year?
