This fresh, filling and flavorful Black Bean Hummus is delicious and super easy to make. Rather than using chickpeas for hummus you can use black beans that will bring a different flavor to this recipe.
Teagan and I love a good hummus to dip our veggies into for lunch. Teagan is also a big fan of black beans, which is great…I am not. While I am not one that enjoys black beans, I do know that they are really good for you. I decided to try something a little different for Teagan and me for our lunchtime hummus. Instead of using the typical Chickpeas I switched to some black beans. Neither of us were disappointed in the result!
Black Bean Hummus
What Is Hummus?
Hummus is a dip, spread, or savory dish made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. It is popular in the Middle East and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe.
What Is Tahini?
Tahini or tahina is a condiment made from toasted ground hulled sesame. It is served by itself or as a major ingredient in hummus, baba ghanoush, and halva.
Ingredients:
15oz can black beans
3 TBSP tahini, to personal taste
2 TBSP lime juice
2-3 TBSP olive oil, to personal taste
1 tsp salt
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
Directions:
1. Rinse black beans and prepare tahini if you are making your own.
2. Place all ingredients in a food processor.
3. Puree ingredients until smooth and combined.
4. Taste and adjust based on personal preferences.
5. Place in serving bowl and serve with pita chips and veggies. ENJOY!
We enjoy our hummus with cucumbers, peppers, carrots and celery but the options are pretty much endless. Hummus is also great with crackers or pita chips. If you have any left over you can always keep it in an airtight container and enjoy the next day. Think outside of the box with hummus…love avocado toast? How about hummus toast! YUP, hummus for breakfast is a great option for a healthy start to your day.
