I feel behind schedule for a few weeks but I am coming back strong!  In my mind, I thought this summer I would do a lot of reading but just like everything else, it seems like summer just slips away so quickly and it get so busy!  For my 12th book read in 2021 I picked up a new book from one of my very favorite authors, Sophie Kinsella.  I have read nearly all of Kinsella’s books and I just love her writing.

I bought I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella for my mom for her birthday and once she read it she passed it along to me.  This was such a great chic lit book…my favorite and in my opinion one of Kinsella’s best books!

Book 12 Read in 2021

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella - Book Review. Chic lit books. Beach reads. Books to take to the beach. Books for women. Book to take on vacation. Book reviews. Sophie Kinsella books.

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella

Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: “Family first.” But since her dad passed away, leaving his charming housewares store in the hands of his wife and children, Fixie spends all her time picking up the slack from her siblings instead of striking out on her own. The way Fixie sees it, if she doesn’t take care of her father’s legacy, who will? It’s simply not in her nature to say no to people.

So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, Fixie not only agrees—she ends up saving it from certain disaster. Turns out the computer’s owner is an investment manager. To thank Fixie for her quick thinking, Sebastian scribbles an IOU on a coffee sleeve and attaches his business card. But Fixie laughs it off—she’d never actually claim an IOU from a stranger. Would she?

Then Fixie’s childhood crush, Ryan, comes back into her life and his lack of a profession pushes all of Fixie’s buttons. She wants nothing for herself—but she’d love Seb to give Ryan a job. And Seb agrees, until the tables are turned once more and a new series of IOUs between Seb and Fixie—from small favors to life-changing moments—ensues. Soon Fixie, Ms. Fixit for everyone else, is torn between her family and the life she really wants. Does she have the courage to take a stand? Will she finally grab the life, and love, she really wants?

My Review of I Owe You One

Just like all of the books I have read of Sophie Kinsella I felt connected to the characters in I Owe You One.  I think this is one of Kinsella’s strengths…she gives you reasons to feel like you are living through the book with the characters.  It is no surprise that I Owe You One is a typical chic lit read…same as all of her books.

Fixie is a character that I can totally relate too.  Things just don’t happen for her like normal.  She is a busy gal with dreams but for some reason, she just cannot break through and grasp those dreams.  Most of us have felt like we were being taking advantage of at one point or another, so right off the bat Fixie was an easy person to root for and someone you wanted to be happy.

Overall I felt like I Owe You One was quintessential Sophie Kinsella! Included fun crazy realistic characters, witty dialogue, and of course humor!  I find that Kinsella can always make me smile and has me rooting or the underdog!!  I recommend this book to anyone that loves chic lit, needs a fun summer novel and to anyone that has enjoyed Sophie Kinsella’s other books.  It was a fun, easy read that will bring a smile to your face.

STAYING ON TRACK

I am right on track for hitting my 2021 reading goal and I hope it continues!  I have found that setting a goal of reading at least 50 pages a day is really helping me this year. I am always looking for new books to add to my reading list so please share some books you have really enjoyed recently.  Make sure you check out my 2021 Reading List and Goal too.  Maybe you can add some of my books to your list this year!
