Sharing lucky number 13 today! Look, I will be honest here, I am really behind on sharing my book reviews and I am really behind on my 2021 reading goal too. Getting back into the swing of things with work and school has taken a lot more brain power than I expected this year. But I have made it a point to get back on track and I am starting by sharing my 13th book read.
I started The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory while sitting poolside at Gaylord Rockies while my kiddos played in the summer sun. It was a book that I started and immediately wanted to keep reading.

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn’t normally do. But there’s something about Drew Nichols that’s too hard to resist. On the eve of his ex’s wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend…
After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she’s the mayor’s chief of staff. Too bad they can’t stop thinking about the other. They’re just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century–or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want…
My Review of The Wedding Date
While we are pass the poolside reads please make sure you add this one to your snuggle up on the couch cold weather books to read too! The Wedding Date was a fun and sexy book all about chance and choices. I must say, I loved the main character, Alexa, she was not only a super career woman but she was a confident single gal ready for something new. I think I could hang out with this girl!
She took a chance and didn’t just drop her friends, career or life to make that chance work. Instead, she wanted Drew to do the work too…I think this is so important. Women often stop what they are doing and enjoying in order to make a relationship work. Now…as you read about this relationship it must be noted…it gets steamy but in my opinion it was not raunchy.
Bonus…the interracial relationship! Alexa, a black woman and Drew, a white man; must deal with the stereotypes but also Drew had to learn to check that privilege in order to truly be invested in this relationship. Overall, this novel is a super cute book all about a relationship that started in such an unlikely way and yet…something we could all wonder if it would work in real life? Maybe I should always carry cheese and wine with me on elevators?
