A few years ago I was challenged to make a fun Flamingo Ring Toss yard game for a party for the kids. At first I wasn’t sure how to make that request work but with a little help from the husband we created something so fun and it is still something that the kids like to play in the yard. That being said, we started searching for other DIY summer yard games to make for our spring and summertime yard fun and we came up with a list of yard games we will be attempting to make this summer.
9 DIY Summer Yard Games

Recycled Bottle Bowling by Moon Frye . Bowling is a game that every child loves. Why not make it a teachable moment when making these fun DIY bowling pins by using recycle bottles? The kids can get creative with the designs and paint they use on the bottles too.
Lawn Twister by One Good Thing. This is one that I have wanted to try for YEARS! This year for Jude’s birthday I think we will make our own lawn twister for the kids in the backyard. So simple and fun!
Painted Horseshoes by Design Love Fest . I LOVE LOVE LOVE these horseshoes. We have the perfect place in our backyard for a horseshoe pit and I cannot wait to make our own pretty painted horseshoes.
Backyard Ker-Plunk by All Parenting. We just introduced the kids to the game Ker-Plunk and they LOVE it. Now to make this giant backyard Ker-Plunk for outside fun!! I think they will FREAK!

I love these sponge bombs! My grandsons love to play water games but we don’t like them playing with any kinds of guns. Water balloons are great but they’re so wasteful and they pollute. So these reusable sponges are a great solution!
You are so creative!!! I am loving the backyard KerPlunk game! I think that is my favorite! Of course, the giant Jenga is pretty cool too! Thank you so much for sharing so many wonderful outdoor game ideas the whole family can enjoy!
Sponge bombs sound like so much fun!! We’re in Sourh Florida and it’s pretty warm all the time. My kids would love this game! Who doesn’t like getting wet? I can’t wait to try these. I’m curious about the water blob too lol.
We LOVE our giant jenga. The kerplunk game is something i never would have thought of. I’m. Going to get my husband on the yard dice right away! Very very creative!
My kids love yard games!! The second the snow melted, they were out there playing a game! They also like to make up their own games. Their favorite for a few summers is something they made up called baseball tennis.
What is awesome about these games you listed and shared is that you can bring these out to play with for any occasion. I would play some of these games, in fact, I would love to buy those colourfully painted horseshoes. The flamingo game gives me a reason to not only display them as decoration but to use them in a game.
Those are all such fun game ideas! I love the backyard Jenga, and the horseshoe game. I grew up watching people play horseshoes and while I’m not that good at it, it would be fun to play with my son. These are all such great ideas for getting kids outdoors and active more often during the spring and summer.
OMG! I love these ideas! Recycle Bottle Bowling is what I will try for sure. I can’t believe that is so easy to make and I am sure it will be so much fun!
These are brilliant!! We are planning an outdoors party at home for my son’s birthday and all of these would be great! I need to get a move-on and start planning and making these!
OMG these look like so much fun! These are games I can play with my nieces and nephew — but also games that I can play with my own friends haha. (Kids at heart for the win!). Thanks for sharing these ideas!
I am going to bookmark this post. I have so many things coming up this spring that these are perfect for, between girl and cub scout events and field day at school! Thank you for the fun ideas, so easy and frugal too!
